Based on past early releases of stealth aircraft imagery, these are undoubtedly carefully selected angles intended to hide as much as they show. For example, there is at least early toy version of the F-117 fighter with a very gently swept wing, far less than the real thing, because the first photo released was angled to give just such an impression, or at least to make it difficult to know what the actual angle was.

“Outrageously” priced weight-loss drugs could bankrupt US health care

Prices would need to be dramatically slashed to avoid increasing the national deficit.

I'm full-blown diabetic and my doctor just put me on Ozempic to bring down my recently rising A1C. Would be terrible if a tag team of greedy drug companies, Tiktokers, trendy stars, and fashionistas ruined this for people who actually need it. Not to mention maybe toppling the entire health-care system, bad as it is in the U.S.

Well, my smartphone just screamed at me. It informed me that at 5:00 EST the army Corp of engineers will be using explosive cutting charges to slice up the part of the collapsed Francis Key Bridge which is currently draped over the cargo ship.

They said anybody within 2,000 feet should either wear hearing protection or hide inside a house.

I will comply...

First Dream Chaser spaceplane needs more work when it gets to launch site

The rest of Dream Chaser's heat shield tiles will be installed at Kennedy Space Center.

@arstechnica
The rule seems to be, tile heat shields are HARD, and subject to endless fidgeting. And remember that a tile failure killed a space shuttle crew. 90% of the way on a heat-shield isn't enough, and nobody has really proven them as safe and routinely reliable. This remains a major challenge for SpaceX on their Starship as well.

When I retrofitted this old flashlight with rechargeable lithium batteries and an LED bulb last year, or whenever it was, I made a point to add a low battery light. After using it on and off for months without charging, it is satisfying to see that the low battery light actually works. I was never sure if it actually would

jstevenyork,
@jstevenyork@mastodon.social avatar

@MLE_online
I love up-tech retrofits of cool old devices like this. Very nice!
Can you give any insight on how you did the conversions? I'm interesting in doing something similar with old lights and toys I have here to work, but the mechanics and safety issues of working with lithium power packs still intimidate me.
BTW, it's a little hard to judge scale here. Is this maybe an old miner's headlamp?

Luckily I will never be caught up in some crypto-scam because if someone told me "The project promises that everyone who bridges ETH to their layer-2 chain would be able to receive their ETH back 1:1 in thirty days" I would have no fucking clue what that even means and I'd probably get distracted by my cats...

I remember these, but I don't remember seeing them by the time I worked at a Radio Shack for a bit in the late 70s. Looking it up, they were in the catalogs at least up until 1979. Maybe I was just more interested in other things (computers!) by then.

So I bought an LED shop light yesterday and I was just looking at the installation instructions and it says to install two ceiling hooks 44.08 inches apart. There are no instructions. That bugged me, and I assumed it had been manufactured overseas in metric and would translated to a round metric number. It translates to... 111.963cm. WTF?! Even if you assume rounding errors, why 112cm? Not 100 or 120 or even 115? WHYISTHIS!

It was stupid of Boeing management to spin off Spirit in the first place. The resulting damage to the company is almost incalculable at this point. Heads should roll at the head office. Boeing needs new management and a return to "engineering first."

I guess Intuitive Machines, the company behind this, is taking a stock hit. But from what I can see, this was a minor (if very expensive) procedural glitch (in not enabling the laser) easily remedied on future flights, and that otherwise the hardware seems amazingly robust, and the team capable and fast on their feet. The NASA LIDAR fix attempt happened ON THE WAY DOWN during a single orbit, and that is some Apollo 13 level MacGyver-stuff right there. It ALMOST worked! AND they landed!

I'm very happy with our vote-by-mail system here in Oregon. (I actually NEVER mail mine, it goes to a drive-through drop-box at my city hall, but that's what it's called.) I'm convinced its as safe, or more so, than alternate systems, and I love being able to sit down with my voter's pamphlet and spend as much time and research as needed to make thoughtful choices. And it gives access to EVERYBODY. Sorry GOP.
