Hey, Mastodon … I’m trying to track down an #AppleNewton developer named Stephen A. Cronin.

He worked at #AMD and operated a software company called TapTech based out of Austin, Texas in the late 90s. I’ve managed to contact his former software partner, Francis Preve … but Francis lost touch with Stephen years ago.

Together they released a sequencer program for #NewtonOS called NR404 and I’m hoping the source code still exists somewhere.

Boosts appreciated.

Video: Zu sehen und zu hören ist der Schweizer Naturgarten-Experte Dani Pelagatti. Er steht in seinem Garten und erklärt, dass Bienenhotels & Nisthilfen grundsätzlich eine gute Sache sind, aber man auf einiges achten müsse. Zu sehen sind Fotos verschiedener Wildbienenarten, die besondere Bedingungen brauchen. Er zeigt an Beispielen in seinem Garten, dass einige Arten Sandböschungen bevorzugen. Wer dafür keinen Platz hat, kann Balkontöpfe mit feinem Kies-Lehmgemisch bereitstellen. Eine andere Möglichkeit sind leere Schneckenhäuser für Mauerbienen, die man an leicht bewachsenen Stellen auslegt. An den Häusern kann man anhand grüner Blattmörtel-Fleckchen erkennen, ob es besiedelt ist. Einige Wespen und Wildbienen-Arten nisten ausschließlich in markhaltigen Stängeln: Die könne man im Garten finden und einfach aufstellen, zum Beispiel in einen Lochziegel. Auch Faulholz kann als Nisthilfe dienen, z.B. für die Holzbiene. Totholz-Nisthilfen sonnig und trocken aufstellen.

One of the things that the Stack Overflow brouhaha demonstrates is that it doesn’t matter if a service was founded by people trusted by the community (Atwood and Spolsky) and was broadly community-led. If it’s a VC-funded startup, they will sell out their users at some point.
