Dipping a toe. I have some understanding of the most elementary fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, some practical physics and organic chemistry. I'd like to do a little passive learning if I can, with a view to learning programming later in life. We all see the same truth through a different paradigm, but sometimes math helps us better see and understand and convey the same thing. What a lovely backbone upon which to build a body of communication and thought. I treasure this server.

TODAY: The Senate will vote on a bill that would protect access to contraception and stop any state from restricting it. Call your senators and tell them to cosponsor the Right to Contraception Act. Republicans are attacking access at both the state and federal levels, and Congress must act to enshrine protections for birth control and family planning services. https://indivisible.org/resource/urge-your-senators-protect-access-contraception?source=mastodon&medium=directpost

Eschif in Périgueux, France; was once a lookout for a toll bridge. It's an oak timber frame building with wattle & daub infill built in 1347 CE. Built that long ago and it's still standing and survived both World Wars.

Building was a lookout post that made it possible to guard Tournepiche bridge in Middle Ages (500-1500 CE). Apparently, in middle ages, taxes on buildings were levied on soil surface occupied by a building.

Thinking about volunteering at EMF? We’d love to have you! https://www.emfcamp.org/volunteer

We have a little dashboard internally that makes us all very happy when we see the lines at the top (shifts 100% filled). That purple line, that’s the bar, and stage crew for the bands.

We would be really chuffed if we could hit 50% of roles filled before we kick off.

Any questions about the roles? Hit us up!

i've added a warning to libreboot installation instructions:

https://libreboot.org/docs/install/#grub-payload-warning

here is the context. see link above.

in about 99% of cases, GRUB works just fine, but on some machines, a fatal bug is caused by a broken pointer during grub_free() or grub_realloc() (in GRUB's own kernel), and so far only on sandybridge-based dell latitudes has this been reported.

most users will be safe on GRUB. again: read the link.

this will be mitigated in the next release. and it's being investigated.

Last we reunited bank cards, wallets, and phones with their owners, mostly within the hour.

We also reunited 1 blåhaj, a 5.8GHz antenna, 3 walkie talkies, and a backpack “with a half finished project in” with their owners.

It is a day for making yourself a nice hot beverage and sitting down with a marker pen or label maker and making sure the kit you’re likely to misplace is labelled.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

If the US saw lack of ICC jurisdiction as a valid defense that exempts Israel from ICC prosecution, then US would not have welcomed ICC arrest warrants for Putin—who also rejects ICC jurisdiction. But instead the US happily welcomed ICC warrants against Putin, and stands by those warrants to this day.

International rules based order mandates consistency in law and the application of law—for opponents & allies alike. That's how justice is supposed to work.

The #ICC has jurisdiction when the “conduct in question” was committed on the territory of a state party or by a national of a state party (art 12(2) RS).

Palestine became a state party to the Rome Statute in 2015:

If anyone wants to or knows someone who wants to hack on a PineNote, let me know. I’m willing to send it to an eager developer for the cost of shipping. It’s unclear where the project is heading, but it seems some people are trying to run Debian and #GNOME. There’s an effort to get mainline #Linux kernel support in for it. I just don’t have the patience and time to contribute.

I’ve already left a message in the Pine Discord offering the same.

The CEO-to-worker pay gap at America’s largest companies was 344-to-1 last year.

In 1965, the ratio was 20-to-1.

This explosion in CEO pay relative to the pay of workers isn’t because CEOs have become so much more valuable.

They've just gamed the system to line their pockets.
