What's next in America's book ban battle? The book ban ban. Minnesota's Gov. Tim Walz has signed into law a measure prohibiting the removal of “a book or other material based solely on its viewpoint or the messages, ideas, or opinions it conveys.” The law allows books to be challenged, but mandates that trained and licensed librarians be part of the review. Minnesota's librarians and educators told CNN they welcome legal criteria for how to address book challenges, since some are worried about losing their jobs if they order books that prove controversial.

TO REPEAT, #TrumpTrial

#TRUMP GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS!!!!!!!!

#TrumpTrial Thurs 30 May 2024 🧵#Deliberations continue

Justice #Merchan says he believes that the #jury wants him to repeat a significant portion of the #JuryInstructions.

He will read pages 6-35.

Each page yesterday took him just a little more than a minute, so this will take >30 mins.

Between that & the testimony readbacks, also expected to take >30 mins, there will likely be >1 hour this morning w/the jury in the courtroom, not actively deliberating.

One of Trump’s close allies, the influential , wondered on X how many Republican AGs & DAs “have stones.” “We aren’t a serious political movement until we are ready to fight fire with fire,” Kirk wrote. “Indict the left, or lose America.”

elected ofcls are at it too. Rep Mike Collins of Georgia: “Time for Red State AGs & DAs to get busy.”

This week, the Wall Street Journal opinion section published an op-ed about our coverage.

We don't typically comment on our newsgathering process, but this opinion essay has factual errors in the headline and in the essay that should be corrected.

We've submitted this to their editors:

Times weren’t better back then. You were just in your carefree youth and are missing that time now. We tend to claim that music, fashion, TV, and society peaked when you were in your teens. It’s not the world it’s you that you are melancholic about.

I'm modeling my new state flag jersey.

I had a lot of compliments on it.

Certainly the old flag was not jersey worthy.

I no longer (and haven't for quite some time) recommend "Sign in with Google" on other sites. The reason is obvious. When you get locked out of access to your Google account due to the horrible state of their account recovery systems, you can lose access to all those other sites where you used Sign in with Google as well. Unless you're a particular kind of masochist, not worth the risk.

Heading to in hopes that will finally win a game for me. I have to travel 500 miles RT to watch the Loons. I see about 3 games per season. Havent seen them win in person in three years. If they don't win today, my miles-to-win ratio drops to 5,000/0.

So now SpaceX, with no working spacesuit, and years behind on it's multi-billion dollar moon lander, is lobbying NASA to go to the Hubble Space Telescope.

"A successful private mission could improve Hubble's ability to point at celestial objects and, by boosting its orbit, extend its life by years... however, an accident could leave the multibillion-dollar telescope broken — or, even more tragically, tethered to the dead bodies of the astronauts sent to repair it."

Starlink is killing Hubble

Something about this plan to move Hubble, didn't make sense. If the space telescope still has 10 years of useful life, why this risky SpaceX mission to boost it's orbit now?

Well it turns out the main thing threatening the utility of Hubble is... wait for it... SpaceX Starlink satellites, which orbit just above Hubble constantly "photo-bombing" the images. Within a few years there will be so many Starlinks that Hubble will be useless.

Here are a couple of impressive images of the shimmering aurora seen around the world last week.

The beautiful auroras with vivid shades of pink were caused by the extremely strong geomagnetic storm last week as the Sun lobbed CMEs towards earth.

Both images are featured on NASA's APOD site.

The 1st image below was taken in a rural area north of the city of Bainbridge in Georgia, USA (!) on May 10 before local midnight.

This beautiful image of the vibrant aurora australis was taken from Banks Peninsula near Christchurch on New Zealand's South Island on May 11.

"The base of a tower-like rocky sea stack is awash in the foreground, with stars of the Southern Cross at the top of the frame and planet Earth's south celestial pole near center."
