I trying to get sum stories from my grampa for BHM. He don like talm bout it much, don blame him this shit gmfu ain gon lie.
He said his Momma saw 2 men lynched hanging from a tree. She got up and was walking to school saw a crowd a people just looking. Nuttin got done , nobody arrested the police just ignored it!
He said that just the way it was. What tf !

c_merriweather,

@Jaden3 Those away from a war rarely want to talk about what they experienced.

I can understand why your grandpa doesn't want to talk about it. Racism is insidious, like a parasite burrowing inside a person. The cure is difficult, and requires a self-awareness that most American "whites"* lack.

*As a painter, no human is "white."
They can be "pinky-beige," "light-olive," "dark brown with purple undertones," "rich red-copper," etc. No color is superior.

I’ve avoided sugared cereals for my entire life. So did my mother. But she is going to be 97, and feels she can have some sweets without guilt. I can’t argue, but now I’ve tasted them. They’re disgusting. There is no reason people need that much sugar. It would taste the same with 1/5th the amount.

c_merriweather,

@shoq US foods contain loads of sugar, so they can call them "low fat" and still have some flavor. The whole craze started in the 1970s with the effort to lower the incidence of heart attacks. Some nutritionists tried to point out that sugar was far more dangerous, and were silenced by the sugar lobby and food conglomerates.

You may disagree fervently with Pres. Biden's Israel policies, and that's fine. But if you come into my feed calling him "Genocide Joe" or any variation on that theme, you're blocked.

I've already had to block a few accounts for this.

Pres. Biden is not "for genocide." I will not argue with you on this topic, nor do I discuss the Israel/Hamas war here.

But I will not tolerate accusations of "genocide" by Pres. Biden. He's not "pro genocide."

If that's a prob, it's on you.

c_merriweather,

@GottaLaff I have three responses to idiots, depending on my mood:

  1. Bless your heart. (passive-aggressive)
  2. That's nice. (dripping with sarcasm)
  3. STFU (patience gone, next comes pitchfork or trebuchet)

Followed by blocking them.

AT&T is sending out letters warning they want to kill virtually all landlines (and perhaps related data circuits where fiber is unavailable) across essentially their entire coverage area throughout California. This would have devastating effects. Related CPUC meetings will be taking place through March.

Landlines provide crucial services for individuals, businesses, and other organizations in a wide variety of situations -- not just emergencies when cellular and Internet service tends to rapidly fail, but also for vast numbers of people in areas with poor, unreliable, or in many cases (even in large sections of major cities!) NO cell service, NO fiber, etc.

Landlines often provide the only available communication in a wide variety of security and safety situations, from elevators to interior spaces of all sorts where cell service simply doesn't work.

Many disabled and other persons have crucial equipment that depends on landlines. Often they are not tech-savvy and do not have friends or relatives to help them through forced technology changes.

AT&T has been shirking its public safety responsibilities for years, while still leveraging their effective monopoly on services in so many areas.

Their new effort must be stopped. I'll have much more to say about this as the situation progresses.

Every science fiction reader understands why troops use energy weapons or shotguns: Hull breach = bad. Nevermind that a bullet might accidentally go through a bulkhead.

I legitimately don't understand pride in where you were born or where you live. You had nothing to do with it, and probably your parents didn't either, most people move for economic reasons. At best, I guess, it makes sports more interesting, and at worst, it leads to genocide. If some places seem better than others the reason is usually money, better infrastructure, better schools, which is a whole other rant. Nothing wrong with enjoying the place you are, but feeling superiority about it, is just cringe.

c_merriweather,

@RickiTarr @JessTheUnstill @holyramenempire @RnDanger @colo_lee There are sports (team) and sports (individual). Team vs. team competition... bleh. (It might have to do with being an introvert, and not "athletic.")

Downhill ski racing, however is fascinating; the challenge for the individual is the course vs. the clock, and possible wipeout.

c_merriweather,

@RickiTarr @JessTheUnstill @holyramenempire @RnDanger @colo_lee I attended an event where the participants were asked to come in gear representing their favorite sports team. I wore a tutu (over clothes) because ballet is my favorite "team" sport. (Years of lessons, for fun.)

It is athletic, done in groups (companies), and has better music than most other "sports."

Don't dress slutty, but please try to be sexy.

Be on the alert for predators at all times, this is your job, because they can't just be expected control themselves, but don't be afraid of all men...somehow.

You need to be strong, but not too strong, you don't want anyone to feel emasculated.

You need to want to have children, you have a womb, you just have to use it, but please don't let the children interfere with anything else you need to do. We are already doing you a favor giving you eight weeks of unpaid leave!

Be very thin, but also eat cheeseburgers and drink beer, because we don't want to acknowledge that for most people, being very thin involves not eating enough.

Be vulnerable and emotionally available, but I swear to God, if you cry at work, or express anger about anything, you're going to make everyone uncomfortable, HR needs to talk with you.

I get that you're working full time and 3 other people live in your house, but it's you're fault it's not clean enough, and did you really get take out again?

You need to have it all, but don't expect any hand outs.

Be smart, but don't show off, EVER, be demure, let them think it was their idea.

You need to be funny, but don't try to get attention, and don't snort laugh, and not too dirty, please don't mention your period!

And ffs, would it hurt you to smile?!

c_merriweather,

@RickiTarr I've heard all of this... and I refused to internalize it.

I give great thanks to my grandfather for teaching me how to use shop tools as a child. He believed that all children should learn to be self-sufficient, especially girls.
