They don't want to talk about it because when they did, mantra style, it didn't go over well.
Telling people they're doing fine when that isn't the reality they feel they're living is gaslighting.
It isn't a PR war to win. It's a sense of future to win. How is it even close with a Trump to defeat?
“For most millennials, the old material markers of midlife, like owning a home or spending 20-plus years at one job, are a nostalgic fantasy. Even as we negotiate gray hairs and a changing body, little has changed in our career, home, and money prospects.” https://www.thecut.com/article/millennials-midlife-crisis-money-job-security.html
@taylorlorenz
This predates 'Bidenomics' but it's not as if he and Dems are trying to reverse the long term trend (Reagan).
What I find annoying is the Dem establishment dismissing the concerns about 'economic' situation and empty future as baseless complaints. We're told 'times are great.'
Gas lighting from the wealthy in control.
@dangillmor
Remember when conservatives complained about "activist judges if they would rule for the benefit of most people? Now conservatives have set up a court system that passes politically suited cases up to this corrupt activist SCOTUS to effectively make new laws by reinterpreting laws in heavily biased ways.
@jeffjarvis
What's continually ignored by stories like this is that our current wealth serving political system has forced unpopular leader choices on us. It isn't simply lesser evil choices. It's unfavored, even unwanted people. Especially obvious this time with the ever greater massive level of money pushed for them. The corrupt have made their corruption 'legally' profitable. Trump is just an exaggerated caricature.
@dangillmor
We tend to think of harsh punishment as deserving of violent physical crime. The 'physical' effects left by con artists aren't viewed as severely.
@Gargron
It's an interesting image. Quirky pose but that's part of the draw. I find the face oversaturated and when I checked in an image editor there was a greenish color cast. Maybe my cheap monitor. ??
From the archives: The rules of barrel racing, the only female-dominated rodeo sport, are simple. It’s the execution that’s hard. https://www.texasobserver.org/on-a-dime/
@TexasObserver@photography
The description of quarter horses abilities reminded me of Jesse Owens, who raced against horses, and won, over 200 meters. But he wouldn't race against quarter horses.
FFS, Washington Post, why don't you blame Biden for not bringing world peace and eternal life? Jesus. Do you even hear what you're saying? Do you listen to your many, many critics? Will you give him a second chance? Stop.
Gannett is hedge-fund crap. They hired a pink-slime company and now they are dropping the AP--which is pretty much all the news Gannett papers had. Do not support these legacy, hedge-fund-controlled companies. They are not journalism, not anymore. https://www.thewrap.com/gannett-drops-ap-associated-press-usa-today/
@jeffjarvis
It seems so obviously fundamental that the problem is the massive amounts (mountains) of excess cash that wealth wants to keep generating high rates of return on.
Here's just the latest reminder that the Trump-appointed federal judge in the Florida documents theft case is -- in every way that matters -- a member of the defense team.
This is the kind of judiciary Trump and his followers want: subservient to the gangster boss, contemptuous of the law when it conflicts with the boss' wishes.
@dangillmor
How much responsibility do you think establishment Dems have for this? How long ago did McCain and Lieberman do a 'gang of' to block 'radical' judges but only 'liberal' leaning judges were considered 'radical?'
Not judges but Pelosi's 'pay-go' policy blocked any real progressive programs.
Four years ago, Trump continued his dereliction of duty in the face of national crisis, telling governors they were on their own in the fight against Covid. “Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment – try getting it yourselves,” he told them.
"Here we go again. Parts of traditional Australia media, in cahoots with politicians whose careers depend on favourable media coverage, are trying to shake down global technology companies....
If the government wants to subsidise high-quality journalism, then it should, well, subsidise high-quality journalism."
Spent yesterday inhaling "The Bezzle" -- the new novel by @pluralistic. It's one of his best, in a category -- which I'll explain in a longer post -- with Little Brother, Walkaway, and Radicalized.
@cpm@pluralistic
Reading The Bezzle I was reminded of David Dayen's books on the regular big money ripoffs that happen in America and the personal real people that get hurt.
Astonishing (no, it isn't) that purported journalism organizations report that the Trump sneakers "sold out" -- as if the crook and his people would ever stop selling something that suckers (purportedly) are eager to pay ridiculous amounts to own.
@dangillmor
I'd read elsewhere that the actual product wouldn't be available for months. It's a test of interest with big PR. I pity the people who actually gave 'real' money.
