Here's an article from the FreeBSD Foundation making the case for why you might consider using FreeBSD in your enterprise: FreeBSD 14.1- What’s new, and how did we get here? | FreeBSD Foundation https://freebsdfoundation.org/blog/freebsd-14-1-whats-new-and-how-did-we-get-here/

Original Work: https://rldane.space/gesture-navigation-is-lame.html

I couldn't find an E-Mail Address, to I went with the next best thing... A Fediverse thread.

Sometime last year, LineageOS Dropped 2 Button Navigation Support, since it was entirely supported in Android for numerous years (and they couldn't justify maintaining that).

I really do miss 2 Button navigation, as a new android user, I loved it... so whenever LineageOS dropped it, I was saddened, and moved to 3 button navigation.

Oh man, this news story. Former MLA from Manitoba asks Meta's own "ask AI" chatbot if a phone number he found on Google is really Meta support. It tells him yes. It isn't, and he's scammed out of $500 and control of his accounts. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/facebook-customer-support-scam-1.7219581

Wrote a few more chapters, and boom. It's 23:30. The /Forks and Wars/ chapter of my Unix History is going smoothly. However there is so much info that would make the text incomprehensable, I think I'll add "bonus" subpages, like timeline.

Which Unix forks would you consider as the most important/noteable except of BSD, Solaris and Xenix? Have you used others maybe?

In the mean time, Mad Dog!

I was fired from my first dev job.

It was 2011. I was trying to get a proper job after doing a couple of start ups with friends.

After 1 interview with the CEO, I got the job.

I was elated.

It was only part time, 20 hours per week. A lots of people were on vacation in my first couple of weeks, so it was slow to start, but I knew I'd get going there eventually.

45 days in, it was time for my check-in with the CEO. (1/3)

Anyone got shell accounts to an OpenBSD server I can get an invite to? (Not privileged or anything/teensy quota is fine)

Just wanted to have a shell account I can learn on. I do have an OpenBSD machine at home, but my PineBook is realistically Linux-only. OpenBSD will run, but the framebuffer doesn't work (yet?), so I think it's just "hope xenodm works, otherwise debug with a serial cable" ;)

P.S. I think I was looking in the wrong place. There is a list here: https://tildeverse.org/members/

@RL_Dane oh no. You mean I can just get shell access and other things on these communities for free? This sounds like too much fun. Down the rabbit hole I go…

I have a #unix question. I’m running #Slackware. I log into my machine from the console and use startx to start X11. By default, my terminal app (urxvt) does not start a login shell. I know I can configure it to do this. The question is: should I? And why?

We have more Dell Latitude ports under review for Libreboot. If anyone has Latitude E6220, E6320, E6330, E6230 please do:

Boot with linux kernel option at boot time: iomem=relaxed

Now download coreboot via git:

git clone https://review.coreboot.org/coreboot

in there, util/intelvbttool

go in there and type "make"

./intelvbttool -l -v data.vbt

as root, in that directory, do this intelvbttool command, send it to me: info@minifree.org

The VBT configures a few things and is needed for backlight control.

Something I miss from : Being able to command-click on a Finder window's titlebar, and seeing a pop-up menu of the entire file path.

I can't find any convenient way of doing this in , other than making the window huge so it can show the entire path, which doesn't work with my workflow most of the time.

Just for the curious, the directory I'm working on now is 127 characters long (full path) and 8 directories deep from /

Edit: Found a solution, thanks to @Tionisla

Digging in the basement I found a 1-1/2" listing of an OS I wrote in the mid 90s. It is 100% 80186 assembly code. Complete with TCPIP stack, Web server, FTP, and FAT filesystem for use in a hand sized device I also designed.

Has SW floating point routines including all of the trig. Applications ran in Basic and the compiler I wrote is in this. My PUT/GET statement took and optional string for use in keyed database access. This was my first (and not last) exposure to AVL trees.

Ahh memories...

Just uploaded a new build of @keepassxc to Debian unstable, this adds a separate keepassxc-minimal package, and a transitional package that depends on keepassxc-full | keepassxc-minimal; so people upgrading (or new installing) will get the full experience again.

This is still 2.7.7, mind you. 2.7.8 I need to go look at some day when I'm not killing myself with apt solver work!
