BREAKING: 🔥 🔥

“What is the point of having power," she says, "if you will not use it to stop crimes against humanity?”
Jewish Presidential appointee Lily Greenberg Call resigned in protest at its refusal to stop arming Israel. It's an astonishing letter.
Update: a few minutes after tweeting this, her X account was suspended 🤨

Alt-texters please note that pages 2 and 3 have a huge amount of citations and footnotes, which I have not included.

The judge starts out be making an odd clarification about his gag order.

He says that despite the restrictions on what Trump can say outside the courtroom, he can absolutely testify from the witness stand.

Trump lawyer Todd Blanche thanks him.

Video:

Trump denies allegations by women — the nature of which is not before the jury.

This is the line prosecutors must walk:

They must show Trump's campaign in tailspin after the "Access Hollywood" tape, sparking motive to cover up a spectrum of alleged sexual misconduct.

Only some alleged behavior, though, they can speak by name.

Short Face Long Beak

I want a bird who's the queen scolopacid,
I want a bird who knows her niche.
I want a bird who's hell-bent onward,
Racing the storm 'cross the Solomon reach.
I want a bird with the right adaptations,
Who is fast, and thorough,
As she probes her mudflats.
She's been wintering in Auckland,
She's visiting Pohnpei,
She's touring coral atolls and their beach habitats.
I want a bird with a short face
And a loong beak...

If you really believe that we should "take care of America's needs first" then your primary concern shouldn't be averting the government shutdown, or even dealing with the border. It's providing assistance to Ukraine, and it isn't even close. …

I genuinely can't believe ANYONE can still be defending Israel. It's now February 9th. Palestinians have been unceremoniously displaced, rounded up and murdered in numbers so large as to render the original Hamas attack almost insignificant in numerical terms. Genocide before our eyes. You CANNOT defend it. If you do you are morally bereft and personally abhorrent.

Umberto Eco has a cogent essay about how to spot the signs of what he calls "Ur-Fascism", or the essential components of fascism.

Heading for some hiking in Patagonia and the Atacama in a couple of weeks. The opportunity to head to darker skies is always my go-to option for a holiday.

One issue I have is lugging lots of big and pricey camera gear for #astrophotography (and having to worry about insurance, damage, etc.)

This week I picked up a Seestar S50, which is compact enough for travel, and does sky tracking for long exposure imaging. So, will be taking this with me!

Just did a few solar shots right now. Look at those sunspots!

Its very good quality, easy to set up and minimal learning curve. Good price as well. Real test will be to see how it performs at night - my benchmark is it has to pick up galaxies from my Bortle 9 city skies. Will update when we have a clear night!

This day has already entered the history of our country: today we have an agreement with Great Britain, a security agreement, on which we worked for a long time. This is the first bilateral agreement that implements the basic agreement of the "Big Seven" regarding the security of Ukraine, our defense, and our secure growth. Thank you to Great Britain and personally to Prime Minister Sunak for your leadership and leadership.....

From @lolgop:

The most successful part of his new campaign, where he’s basically recycling the hits from his previous attempts at ending democracy, is where he sounds just like Adolf Hitler.

Much as several mass shooters have sounded just like Trump.
This is all part of running “for dictator,” as rhetoric professor Jennifer Mercieca calls it.
Why would Trump seek to associate himself with the worst enemy America has ever defeated in war?
