Meet my sister’s new nemoshés ()! His name is Mishkweze (“Mishko” for short). He enjoys long romps through the grass and annoying the heck out of his older siblings. He is the goodest boy, and I love him. I also love that the sis won the battle in naming him, so he is officially a .

@RickiTarr I was about 6 (1997) when I got my first email from my grandpa and started reading online encyclopedia entries about animals. Games like “Wacky Races” and “Thundercats: Tomb of Mumm-ra” made me really get onboard.

Born 122 years ago this week, Louis Armstrong's charisma & warmth captivated audiences globally. But, by the 1950s and 1960s, many Black Americans perceived him as outdated, out of touch with civil rights, and hesitant to voice his opinions—labeling him an "Uncle Tom." This deeply wounded Armstrong. But he was a far more complex & nuanced man than they knew.

"Because Greater Idaho is unlikely to become a reality, 'people dismiss it,' said Stephen Piggott, a program director with Western States Center. And that, he believes, is dangerous: 'People are not connecting the dots,' he said. 'The people who want to create a white homeland are backing it.'”

The indomitable Leah Sottile brings a depth of reporting to the Greater Idaho movement found nowhere else.

@Toastie #PNW rural Republicans are whiny & hypocritical. They think their geographical spread (on stolen land) should equal political power. They’re ticked that Portland can influence how they live so want rules/borders changed. Yet, the same crowd continuously strips bluer Boise of city rights to force submission to the redder state, and they stomp all over the sovereignty of #indigenous communities in both Oregon and Idaho. Liberty is only for those who are white AND conservative.

I had to cancel plans I was feeling two ways about anyway, today, because both I and the person I was going with have chronic illnesses and body conditions that are interfering today.

Someone said on Twitter yesterday that age is only a number as long as we stay healthy, well, and happy.

I would flip off the screen but I still can't straighten my fingers well.

Is there a mastodon equivalent hashtag for twitter?

KweVictoria,
@KweVictoria@mastodon.social avatar

@geographile I follow #Disability (how I saw you) and #ChronicIllness. They’re pretty popular hashtags for our peeps.

@MonaApp I’m using the inline profile setting, which is great, except when there are threads. It indents the first post instead of replies, so my brain keeps thinking the OP is a reply to an unrelated post above. (Example: In screenshot, I read the first Mona post as a reply to Jonathan.) Is there a way to switch this so threaded replies indent instead of the first post? If not, can I suggest that?

And another thing… If you’re a white person who refuses to acknowledge that #Native nations are sovereign political entities with self-determination and critical cultural knowledge, not simply racial groups, you shouldn’t be allowed to raise #Indigenous children. Period.

#COVID19 is NOT just the flu! Not only can you get COVID multiple times a year (compared to once a decade with flu) data from Winter 2022-23 shows the fatality rate is 61% 🔼 with COVID. More data:

  • Over 65, COVID & flu death risk are the same. Under 65, COVID death rate is 78% 🔼.

  • Death rate goes down with vaccinations: 132% 🔼 for unvaccinated, 66% 🔼 for 1/2 doses, and 38% 🔼 than flu for the boosted.

  • COVID reinfection deaths are 34% 🔼 than flu reinfection deaths.

@augieray You can definitely get the flu multiple times in a year. Not sure where you’re getting a decade from. But yes, COVID is worse and people need to treat it with the caution it deserves.
