Is email encryption for the average person a waste of effort? I currently use tuta (formerly tutanota) and the encryption they provide either requires the recipient to also use tuta, or that I password protect an email and communicate that password to the recipient some other way. Seems like a lot of effort for basic communications.

Also I’m limited to just using their first-party clients due to their encryption being done client-side. I think after some time with them I’d be more happy using an email service that can work with any client and is committed to respecting my privacy. Anybody have thoughts on this or recommendations?

@jake4480 yeah proton does offer a much larger suite of tools, but as far as emailing people goes it kinda has the same issues as tuta- being that you’re only really using end-to-end encryption when you email someone on the same email provider as you, which kinda defeats the purpose imo

idk what shit microsoft is smoking but the latest teams update has made it exceptionally worse for no discernible reason

@jake4480 I wish I had such freedom on my work machine. the I'm not sure there's any way for me to rollback this teams update to the old version. Luckily they've not 'upgraded' us to windows 11 yet either

They keep talking about "banning" TikTok but I mean.. how would that even work? They'd take it out of the app stores, I guess? But the pre-existing copies of the app people have on their phones would just keep working, right? Users wouldn't be able to update the app ever again, but wouldn't it just keep working with whatever last version they have?

I have no idea how things like this work. I suspect MOST people don't know how it would work. Is there even a way the government could stop pre-existing copies of TikTok from working?

I figure this kind of thing hasn't really been seen before.

How do folks find new music today? I want to start moving away from streaming and I’m realizing how much of a crutch it has become for discovery. The most I do these days is maybe check /r/hiphopheads or /r/metalcore for weekly release threads and otherwise just depend on the genre sections of apple music.

Are music blogs still a thing? Anybody got recommendations on how to find the good shit?

The problem with hanging out in Autism communities is you become paranoid that every behaviour you have is a result of it.

I’ve always avoided crowds. I mean, who doesn’t? They’re inefficient, nothing gets done, and the time they waste is almost never worth the end result.

I also like eating in empty restaurants. It’s good to just bring a book, sip some coffee, and take in the silence.

But I’m starting to question things. I don’t eat eggs. I’ve always assumed there’s simply foods out there that everyone doesn’t like. But apparently, not eating eggs is considered “weird” and “quirky” – enough to be considered “autistic”. But why isn’t eating chicken embryos considered weird?

There’s also a hobby I have where I try to find albums on Spotify with 0 listens. I like giving them their first ever listen. It’s just a lot of fun. But that’s considered “autistic” too.

I think I just don’t like being reduced to “autism”. It seems like such a small box to put yourself in. I’d rather be considered for what I am: a three dimensional human being with a few interests, but also ambitions and passions.

I don’t know. Maybe some things are due to autism, but I also don’t like the notion of being defined by it. I don’t think anyone can be defined be one word.

@atomicpoet i feel ya, after getting diagnosed back in 8th grade, it’d bug the hell outta me when my mom would read something about autism in a book and try to apply what she learned on me. Like Im right here you dont need a book to tell you how to behave around me

    Just went down a rabbit hole of Nintendo fanboys on YouTube who are enraged about the Steam Deck.

    You know what? I never cared if Steam Deck would ever be successful. I just wanted a portable device to play my massive PC library of games at a reliable 60fps.

    @atomicpoet I wonder how many people in these studies who had some sort of cannabis-related health issue were inexperienced/first-time users. I also wonder how the potency of THC in the product (which seems to have steadily increased in recent years) affects the outcome

    @eniko you should be able to set the default scaling to be a little larger if you find you’re doing it more often than not. For my ultrawide monitor at home I think I have firefox set to 125% and I rarely need to zoom in

    @eniko depends how abstract they got with it tbh. Sometimes it only takes a minute or two, sometimes I’m digging through different classes scratching my head for over an hour

    I try to keep the number of people I follow at no more than 250 because otherwise I get totally overwhelmed. I think it’s the ADHD. I recognize most of you by your avi pictures so if you change them I might lose track of who I’m talking to.

    @HeavenlyPossum i dont have adhd but Im with ya, there’s def a sweet spot on how many people to follow. Also depends on how often certain ppl post, boost, etc
