What a strange cross. Were I a jury member I would be mostly confused - as I've needed outside commentary to sort out what the reasons were for the questions other than opportunities to use the word lie lie lie. I did catch the one zinger before the morning break though: you assume? But no documentation?

Just reading, that seemed to be impressively good testimony by Cohen. Calm straightforward, and convincing. I can't see how defense can come across as anything other than cruel. I hope Cohen keeps his cool on cross. Thanks for the excellent access, Laffy.

I admire your decision and the tenacity to follow through. Canada is one of my favorite places to visit even though many US citizens act like it doesn't even exist. It sounds like the ideal place to be just now: not perfect but SO MUCH better than the crazy that is going on here in the US. I will enjoy following your adventure.

I don't see that Stormy has changed her story. It absolutely rings true to me that her tellings of the story would change subtly given the embarrassment and the difficulties of the situation she was in. No woman just spills every gory detail of a moment like that to everyone equally. And Necheles knows that. Damn her for working for Trump and doing his dirty work.

I studied the #holocaust in college, met survivors of the camps. I visited Auschwitz and let the reality of the holocaust sink in deeply. I took the lesson of "never again" seriously. But I learned to take "never again" to apply not only to Jews but to Palestinians, indigenous people, migrants, the homeless, and the underprivileged everywhere. Just now, the lives of #Palestinians are in peril and arming the state of Israel to destroy Gaza and Palestinians must be stopped.

I'm getting Doomers galore in my feed.

A Trumpy helped convict him in an earlier trial.

The prosecutors are vetting the jurors carefully.

I am not Dooming. Not yet.

Can we wait for the trial to be in full swing before predicting the worst possible outcome? Or do people thrive on constant pessimism? I just don't.

My thinking on what must happen to save democracy has evolved.

Fact: The United States has been a backsliding democracy for some time.

Fact: We are in an information disruption.

Because democracy requires facts and an educated population, the question is whether enough people will develop the media literacy needed in this new age of information quickly enough.

I am discouraged about what higher education can accomplish for at least 2 reasons 1. The increasing influence of the Right on the administration of colleges and universities 2. The increasing difficulty of teaching communication (including media literacy). The problem is, unlike, for example, teaching calculus, everybody thinks they already know how things work. I say this at the end of a long career teaching communication, culture, and technology.

Sleep didn't come easy last night. I finally just got up and went to the family room and kicked back in my magic chair. Sleep came to me after 03:00 A.M. True to his heart, Charlie left me alone until almost seven, "time to eat." But after feeding the dogs and putting on the coffee, I slept another hour, or so. Speaking of Charlie, he just came in to pester me about going outside again.

Sometimes I wonder, in all that tossing and turning, did I sleep a bit without knowing. Hmmm ... more coffee please.
