I love how folks still think people farmers like Google have a trust problem.

In 2024!

They don’t have a trust problem.

They are untrustworthy.

And they’ve always been untrustworthy. It’s just that your friends happen to work there and your agency gets scraps of work from them sometimes and maybe they sponsor events you speak at that you’re even still questioning this. And, by doing so – still, even today – helping legitimise them.

With friends like these…

“…In 4 decades as a #federal #judge, I have known scores, possibly hundreds, of federal trial & appellate #judges pretty well. I can’t think of a single one, no matter who appointed her or him, who has engaged or would engage in conduct like that. You just don’t do that sort of thing, whether it may be considered over the line, or just edging up to the margin. Flying those flags was tantamount to sticking a ‘Stop the steal’ bumper sticker on your car. You just don’t do it.”

On frontenddogma.com, I had a “soft block” in place that I used not to attribute people I mistrust.

I’ve dropped that block.

It’s not that the mistrust went away, but I don’t feel like I need to “retaliate.” I much rather like to acknowledge that I could err in my judgment. I also believe that nothing improves if we all think “eye for an eye.”

To keep it short, the spirit matches what I wrote in “Reasons to Listen to Whom You Don’t Agree With”:

While trust in Government is failing (see earlier post) this has not merely been caused by recent actions of the Tories.... Inquiries into the Horizon IT persecutions & the infected blood scandal have again & again revealed duplicity & malpractice by Govt. & associated institutions.

Certainly the Tories have compounded the issue, but our political class' contempt for normal people & their difficulties has also driven the longer-term decline in trust!

A major driver of the current dystopian political and social dysfunction is a complete and utter loss of #Trust in just about everything. Folks just don’t trust anyone or anything anymore - or so it seems. We don’t trust corporations to do the right thing in any situation; we don’t trust professional of all stripes to be genuinely concerned about our issues; we don’t trust schools to protect our kids; hospitals to keep us healthy; the police to not brutalize or shoot us; we don’t even trust bishops and priests to keep their hands off of small children. And, of course, we don’t trust government unless one is lucky enough to live in a Scandinavian country (where it appears governments do everything right). Trust is fundamental to societal cohesion, healthy communities, and a sense of wellbeing. It underlies healthy relationships, well functioning families and resilient communities. And rn in the USA, trust is at an all time low. https://www.amacad.org/publication/fifty-years-declining-confidence-increasing-polarization-trust-american-institutions

In our dogmatic way of life can we discern patches of and to grow Humble Deeds?
