Infamous for its starvation wages, Walmart just posted staggering first-quarter profits. The surge is a result of its strategic shift toward catering to affluent shoppers while its full-time workers continue to rely on Medicaid and food stamps

My new favourite thing is looking to see how much LESS busier than normal #Loblaws stores are according to the Google Maps traffic chart.

Go ahead, take a look at your local store and DELIGHT in the below normal traffic levels thanks to the #loblawsboycott

Have signed the petition to investigate #Loblaws for their absurd price increases on food via Change.org:
https://chng.it/BLDMrDf8FC
Due to consolidation in the Canadian grocery market in the past few decades, too much power is in the hands of a few large corporations and they are putting profit and shareholder dividends ahead of providing the basic needs of customers who have struggled to afford a basic human right: food.
I will also avoid visiting all Loblaws-owned outlets in the month of May.

One additional lingering point in my mind on this topic makes me think of the historic actions taken by rogue governments in which they squeeze and attempt to nefariously control their populations through artificial scarcity and potentially resulting famine. I certainly hope that's not going to be an unconscious outcome of the actions of a corporation like #Loblaws (or #EmpireLtd , for that matter [with that ominous corporate name rather concerning in itself]). #BoycottLoblaws

Fellow Canadians, did you know there's a movement to boycott Loblaws for the month of May to protest their profiteering?

☝️I should add, when I was able to get out of the house and out from under the scalping that is Instacart, exploring stores I found shopping at my local hippie store less expensive than going to zehrs/superstore. Which is bananas, that a specialty shop is less overpriced than regular groceries.

So you may as well check out your indie grocers this month in protest, you may accidentally find a grocery store you like better anyways.

If you don't understand how the alt-right pipeline works then you won't understand how we stop Pierre Poilievre. What alt-pipeline offers is hope, and community. Criticizing PP does not get people either of those things. Convincing people that PP is bad won't make them want to vote for the other failing parties.
Unless we run candidates who can offer hope, without the bigotry, PP wins. Join me in forming a new party.

We need is a party that does politics differently. We need to be bold and unafraid. We need real solutions. I think we should push for the following things:

  1. Break up of the oligopolies including .
  2. Repeal of the Notwithstanding clause.
  3. Tax reforms so housing is not an investment.
  4. Real privacy laws.
If you have ideas please share them.
We also need to distance ourselves from toxic "leftists". We can save democracy only if we work together. All are welcome.

I can't reasonably boycott entirely because it's a 25-minute walk each way to a grocery store not owned by them (though I will make special trips to Farm Boy for produce now). So I'm glad to see the Reddit boycott acknowledges that there are other measures to take for those of us who can't easily shop around, because the Loblaw Corp has squeezed out every single independent grocer around. (I still miss Boushey's...)

"A group of shoppers who say they are fed up with the company's grocery prices said that as of Wednesday they would start boycotting the retailer's flagship Loblaws stores."

More power to them, but I'm pretty sure that deciding to shop somewhere else with lower prices is just, well, shopping. I wouldn't be inclined to call that a boycott.

Or perhaps I've been boycotting all sorts of shops for most of my life!

For Canadians looking to take a stand against massive corporate greed. Hurt them where they hurt most: the bottom line. This boycott is for the month of May. It may inconvenience you, but your participation will yield results.

Mid-aft shop avoids the busy times. It is pretty good – not as nice as evenings though which is very relaxing.

Lately patronizing a place called Food Basics who seem to have improved their selection lately! Plus predatory grocer has been gouging us so much.

Most noticeable benefit beyond prices is the ACTUAL staff in the aisles stocking shelves! Haven't seen that in YEARS. Loblaws uses after-hours workers. Getting actual help finding stuff is so brilliant!

Lots of good price deals on grocery items today, and yet another week of successfully avoiding #Loblaws. Their opportunistic gouging through the height of the pandemic period has really turned me off shoveling more cash into the coffers of Canada's wealthiest family.

Grocery chain, Loblaw paid it's new CEO, Mr. Per Bank, $22-million during his first six months in the job.

$22 MILLION DOLLAR SALARY

Meanwhile, and the conservative premiers are screaming at Canadians trying to convince us that 3 cents at the gas pump is why we can't afford groceries.
