Mid-aft #grocery shop avoids the busy times. It is pretty good – not as nice as evenings though which is very relaxing.
Lately patronizing a place called Food Basics who seem to have improved their selection lately! Plus predatory #Canadian grocer #loblaws has been gouging us so much.
Most noticeable benefit beyond prices is the ACTUAL staff in the aisles stocking shelves! Haven't seen that in YEARS. Loblaws uses after-hours workers. Getting actual help finding stuff is so brilliant!

Ross, our FoodBasic is great ... except for their produce. Our store seems to sell produce that on the cusp of going bad. And I stopped buy their broccoli because it always seemed to be infested with bugs or worms.
If you have a FreshCo (subsidiary of Sobeys) near you, try them. Produce is fresh, cheap, and a wide variety of both traditional and international items.
@OhOkKay Agreed, I've found the same with their produce, like they're getting second-tier stuff that isn't working for their main Metro locations. Quite good prices but often disappointing quality & shelf life.
I popped into a FreshCo once but just for a look, as they're not super conveniently located for me.

2 years ago I did a price study with Walmart, FreshCo, Metro, Independent, and FoodBasics. All products had to be the exact same product - size, packaging, etc.
Cheapest was Walmart by a few bucks. Next was FreshCo, then FoodBasics. Most expensive was Metro with Independent a few dollars cheaper, but the difference between FreshCo and Independent was just under $50.
Don't know about others but $50 is big chunk of my budget. And that was 2 years ago ...
I should do another one.
