Is someone publishing parts of an #Obsidian / #Logseq vault as a static page? I’m not sure what I’m looking for.. maybe a plugin? Maybe static site generator? There should be templates to adjust the page to my needs. Any ideas? Any nice examples? #lazyWeb

Dear #lazyWeb : does anyone know of a website/app like https://www.commutometer.com that would provide bike travel times? (commutometer is public-transit focused, which is great, but I'd like to also use bike as an option)

(yes, I can check point-to-point bike times with google maps, but a isochrone map would be handy for overview)

#LazyWeb request:

What's the easiest way to get something like this storage backup setup for my Mac?

• I only want to back up specific folders (mainly Logic projects, audio stuff, design and dev files)

• I would ideally like a redundant backup of those backups

• I also want a drive (or partition) to keep videos and other big files I don't use often off the Mac

• I would ideally like an extra back up of that stuff too

• I don't need masses of space (~4TB or less)

(Boosts appreciated)

I've tried setting up a TP-Link Deco X20 system, but it keeps failing at the last stage of config process.

I loath the fact it requires me to use a mobile app.

Any recommendations of a good WiFi AP system with mesh functionality for a large house with config via a webpage hosted on the device?

* QUESTION

is there a spreadsheet of how much it costs to run a instance based on # of users & activity?

i would like to see numbers from the hundreds to the millions

it would be cooler if we could have that information extended to all the other platforms: and amma gonna throw in in case there's any instances using ActivityPub & federating

Dear #SelfHosting #LazyWeb,

does anyone have experience with using #Udoo (e.g. Bolt) as a home server, ideally with #YunoHost ?

I’m also open for other silent – ideally fan-less – small-factor, power efficient suggestions.

(After many many years, I’m giving up on ARM dev boards, I simply don’t have the time and energy to spare with JTAGs and UARTs etc.)

help me name that bug.

It's sunset in the bay area in California, and I frequently hear what sounds like one very loud bug. It's high pitched, like a dentist drill, very loud if it is a single creature, as I suspect. It shuts up if I get close to the source of the sound.

It's a constant, high pitched whine of a sound, not like a cricket's occasional chirps.

Name that bug!

Anyone around here have knowledge or experience working with a tool where I can easily generate a PowerPoint (or similar) presentation by providing data in a spreadsheet or otherwise?

Like I have 200+ slides of information and I don't want to put it in manually.

I would really love to just like...push a button and this is done.

Otherwise, I'm hiring someone in another country to do this for me.

Dear #lazyweb ,

I need a replacement laptop for my kids. What do you recommend?

Maybe helpful information:

  • 2 kids aged 11 and 7, thus I need something resilient/tough
  • The last laptop died due to the USB-C ports being broken & unrepairable
  • Both enjoy some #Steam games and #minecraft
  • Due to above and school software requirements, probably Windows? I might dual-boot it but honestly it'll probably not boot into non-Windows much.
  • Budget is "whatever is reasonable less than ~$700"

Help?

Some more info/questions for the #lazyweb :

The industry seems to be heading to USB-C as the standard power (and data) plug, which is great because standards but my experience is that they are much weaker than the old style Thinkpad power plugs (either the rectangles or barrel plugs).

Am I going to have a hard time finding non-USBC power plugs?

heygabe, to 3DPrinting

Hey, 3D printer nerds: how often do you replace your hot end? I’ve been probably putting a new one in every six months or so after a failed print creates a bad clog. (But mostly because I hate cutting new tubes) . Would a direct drive kit prevent this?

What affordable pen would you recommend for person enjoying Lamy Safari with a fine (F) nib and Pelican 6001 inks for two years? I am looking for something to become my secondary workhorse pen, to stay at home or to have it to always stay ready for travel :)

I like F and EF nibs, because those make it a little bit easier to find proper paper for in comfortable formfactor. I'd also appreciate ink reccomendation as well :)

Dear The #MastoAdmin,

I know next to nothing about how to configure a Mastodon instance, so phrasing this question is a challenge and might be nonsensical…

Is it possible to run a public Mastodon instance that isn't automatically federated to by instances that are setup to "auto federate"?

I don't yet know the nuts and bolts of what ActivityPub federation is nor anything about permissions except what I've gathered from context when reading admins chat.

Cognitive dissonance (maybe irony?) from The Globe and Mail: The CN Tower obscured by smog, while workers assemble seating for a car race.

Bad enough that they're still holding car races in a #ClimateCrisis, but to add that car exhaust to the air when Torontonians are already suffering from this level of air pollution?

(maybe exhaust from the racing cars is less than exhaust from cars that would usually be on those streets? Hey, #LazyWeb!)
