"Stranger than science fiction." That's how an ecologist describes a strange fungus that hijacks cicadas’ bodies and behavior, turning them into "zombies."
CNN reports on the the fungus Massospora cicadina and how it's impacting some of the cicadas emerging this year: https://flip.it/cxfw5K
This is Tulip, the median carpenter ant worker. Today she enjoyed some wet cat food. I can’t seem to find Pepper, the ant with the green spot, I think she might have cleaned the paint off (she was very dusty) — stay tuned for more important Tulip updates. #tulip#ant#namedAnts
Tulip is about two years old. It's been nearly two years since I marked her. The queen of this colony is 4.
Can we just gush a little about #gimp - particularly the one situated in the #flathub#flatpak beta repo.
This whole window is unintrusive. The title and window controls are just sort of there, at the top of the window. A standard titlebar, toolbar in a single column to the left, and on the right grouping toolkit dialogues on the top and project management dialogues on the bottom, all surrounding the canvas.
It's more cohesive, more compact, and gives focus to the actual image itself... one sec
and bobs your uncle. Remember to #shitpost responsibly and with no ill intent.
A #gentleman#shitposter is not a #fuckboy and the distinction should be made that a good jest, a good hardy-harr should not be at the expense of others when one can more easily lay into their subpositions and narrative with a nudge, a wink and a little jig to signify the the culmination of the jape.
Thanks and love goes to @futurebird for her weekly #ant adventures.
Next time you think, "I can't make a difference, I am only one little person .."👇
This Tiny Ant Species Is Disrupting the Lives of African Lions
"..tiny and seemingly innocuous invasive ant species is changing tree cover in an East African wildlife area, making it harder for lions, the world’s most iconic predator, to hunt its preferred prey, zebra.
"... pulling on the ties that bind an African ecosystem together, determining who is eaten and where,”
"[T]he ant colony optimization #algorithm (ACO) is a #probabilistic technique for solving computational problems which can be reduced to finding good paths through #graphs. Artificial ants stand for multi-agent methods inspired by the behavior of real ants. The pheromone-based communication of biological ants is often the predominant paradigm used."
Hmmmm so if I want to use a not-so-new #Garmin watch that only does heart rate broadcasting via #ANT, to feed heart rate data to #RunnerUp on a phone running #LineageOS, then I'm out of luck because the ANT stack is proprietary and not included in LineageOS. Did I get that right?
