Hi! It's time for this week's edition of the #bevymergetrain. If this is your first time here, every week a do a round up of the community-reviewed PRs for @bevy, the #opensource#rustlang engine for #gamedev that it's now my full-time job to help maintain!
There's a whopping 20 PRs ready this week; let's check in on and each of them and I'll make the final call:
Any Qt + Python devs out there with any experience on calling deleteLater() from the Python side?
I have some costly dialogs I want cleared on close, and so far I've been running deleteLater() in the closeEvent, which is clearly a little risky. I do get the very rare segfault especially if I close one particular dialog which has a QTimer singleShot call. If the deleteLater() is called when it is running, I get a RunTImeError.
Follow along as I explain and triage them: it's fun to see how #opensource works under the hood, and #rustlang game engines are the charismatic megafauna of FOSS frankly.
If you’ve visited the Thunderbird website, maybe you’ve noticed something. Is it more modern? More organized? Dare we say it, a little shinier? ✨
@freehive has worked their magic on our website. Read all about the changes, check out the new and much improved site yourself, and add Freehive to your contacts for whenever you or your project needs a creative agency! 🎨
I have added a shortcut for refreshing packages. Next step, I'll see if I can add a separate button to Cork itself for only refreshing packages without updating them!
(also, does anyone know why Shortcuts is showing the key for each LocalizedStringResource instead of the actual string? 🤔 see pic #2 for code)
The organizers of @pycon have given community organizers a massive gift 🎁
Let's not squander it!
A sold out#PyConUS 2024 proved that even large events can prioritize safety and inclusion for caregivers and immunocompromised people by way of requiring masks, and gathering venue data to calibrate their policy from year-to-year. Smaller events have proven it's possible at that scale, too.
Now is the time for at least one other large event to step up.
I recently went back to using @libreoffice again (I used to use OpenOffice) instead of Microsoft Office, because now Microsoft wants to start charging monthly for Word, Excel, etc.
I don't know why I ever stopped using it (Having Microsoft Office already installed on a new laptop?) but LibreOffice is SO great, I never should have stopped. I love the ease of it, .odt files that work wherever -- the whole thing is superior to Microsoft products.
