@Hexangon@gnome
gnome-weather verwendet für die Namensauflösung die Bibliothek gweather. Dort gibts ne Locations.xml mit allen Standorten. Alles Open Source! Tu dir keinen Zwang an 😜
Hi @ebassi , we discuss here an issue with #GnomeWeather. I added you, because you might know why the regression exists. There are many locations missing in #Gnome#Weather with version >= 41. Before, the locations were there and worked fine. Even larger German cities are not anymore available.
It's a complex issue, because you don't want to always do a geolocation search (for privacy reason) and adding more locations for offline search is labour-intensive.
@GerryT@Hexangon@lued@gnome in practice, I want to split out the locations DB from libgweather to unblock adding more cities without having to constantly spin a release; a bit like the timezone database.
Adding geolocation search to Weather is possible, but the application is not heavily maintained, so you may need to get more eyes on it, if you want to contribute.
@ebassi Thanks a lot for your response and detailed explanation. I know understand the problem better. I am not a developer, but I was in contact with the developer of OpenWeather Refined. Maybe there are synergies with Gnome Weather / libgweather.
@GerryT@Hexangon@lued@gnome I'm happy to review contributions to add a new weather provider; the main issue is typically the terms of service, but for anything else, the code is pretty simple.
@ebassi Thank you. Regarding terms of service: Is this something that seems to be suitable? Here from OpenWeatherRefined: "Display weather for the current or a specified location. Fork of OpenWeather.
Weather data is provided by OpenWeatherMap.org or WeatherAPI.com.
If location is set to "My Location," which is the case by default on laptops, this extension will use location services and Nominatim (from openstreetmap.org), or infoip.io if that failed."
