so tired of app. How can I criticize it when I’ve never used it I would like to use it. I would like to use it very much. However I don’t own a smart phone. Which means I can’t register a desktop app which intern means I can’t use signal as even trying to create a virtual I machine running, android to download the mobile app to register my desktop app. Which failed. I don’t care how much you improve it until you’re actually inclusive. Signal is not a good app. You might also want to think about who are the people they don’t have access to their own smart phone. Think about other ways for users to register without a smart phone please. (running macos desktop)

@signalapp

eliasr,

@Yishay yes, that's a big downside with Signal and something I really hope they will improve. In addition to people who don't have a smartphone, there are also people who use a different smartphone than iOS or Android, like various GNU-like variants, for them Signal is also difficult to use.

I avoid iOS and Android phones for privacy reasons. Signal is supposed to be good for privacy, then it should work to easily register an account without iOS or Android.

If you are a Gnome-Mobile user and you want to get rid of the close button on your title bars, just copy this in your terminal and hit enter:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout 'appmenu'

And to revert back:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout 'appmenu:close'

Window without close button on title bar.

Screen recording is working nicely with Kooha on OnePlus 6t, postmarketOS, Gnome-Mobile.

The two best smartphones I own. Not the fastest, most powerful, or most expensive. They are the best and most precious to me because those devices can run PostmarketOS.

No manual editing this time, but an automatic postprocessing script using darktable-cli and rudimentary lens corrections. Takes ~30 sec to develop on the phone - about ten times longer than the default script used by Millipixels, but with much better results. #shotonlibrem5 #librem5 #mobilelinux #linuxmobile #photography

#BitRitter now has support to open links from the detail page (or copy them). Also, Custom fields are shown on the detail page.
To smooth the overall experience, i got a basic search filter working, so you don't have to scroll to your desired #VaultWarden entry.

Check out the latest main at https://codeberg.org/Chfkch/bitritter .
If you try it out on your #LinuxMobile device and the list/detail-ratio is off, please open an issue (preferrably with screenshot attached) so i fix it.

A week ago I published my blog post on and the benefits for children.

Clearly there's an appetite for this sort of long read...thankyou to all who have read and commented.

In case you haven't, you can pop over to https://clubb.cymru/2024/04/25/linux-mobile-safer-phone-for-childern/ and see what all the 'fuss' is about 😄

BTW the web stats are from hosted on , strong recommend from me, if you are using now's the time to bin it.

Exactly two years ago, I started a one week #Librem5 field trial. Since then I have been using a Librem 5 #Linux #phone as my daily phone.

Here is a small blog post with more information: https://janvlug.org/blog/two-years-of-daily-librem-5/

My intention is to write some more post in the near future. Let me know if there is a specific topic that you would like me to write about.

So my Pixel 3a's #LineageOS install decided to brick itself today... any cool ROMs to try out that support AMOLED mode?
I was also considering mobile Linux, though I do really depend on Discord notifications due to my university; unsure how well that would work...

Hello bubble.
I am searching for a tablet which preferrably runs mainline so or are supported.
Must have:

  • a sort of display via cable (USB-C, DP, HDMI)
  • bluetooth for mouse and keyboard
  • WiFi

Do any of you know of such a device? I guess is not it?

My 72 year old mother is in a hospital right now. I had to make and take all sorts of phone calls lately, just to manage things like insurance and care facilities.

It got me thinking about Linux phones. In this current time I couldn't use something like @postmarketOS because even missing a single call can cause huge difficulties and delays right now.

I really hope calls can be made more reliable in the future. 🙏

A question to @Mer__edith and @signalapp : when will Signal Desktop be available for aarch64 (arm64) CPUs so that it becomes straightforward to install on devices such as and ?

If that is not happening, then why, what is stopping you?

The (wrong and silly) assumption that everyone must use Google/Apple phones is expected from Big Tech these days but you are supposed to be among the good guys. Please help us be free from Google/Apple 🙂

Questions for linux phone enthusiasts:

  1. What's to stop Instagram etc creating apps for mobile linux? (In principle I mean, obviously there's no market yet)
  2. Is it possible to set up phones with users, so (in principle) you could have a child as a user who can't install anything without the root password?

Thanks ahead of time (this is for my forthcoming blog post on the benefits of linux mobile for young people)
