After being called out on Mastodon for not having installed Asahi, I finally knock it off my to-do list.

Starting my home lab has been amazing. Yes, I've had stumbles, but that has been a part of the experience. It's been a lot like when I first switched to . Everything is new and exciting again.

I got my son a laptop for school. (Refurb T490s!) He's not super technical but, after watching his mom struggle with windows, he wants Linux. Here's the question. Do I install Ubuntu since most Linux software works with it and it's easy to admin or do I install something else? (I run Debian and BSD on my personal machines.) Thanks!

Dear users, I maintain a piece of software whose purpose is to detect what OS, and what variation on an OS, it is running on. Right now, it can tell the difference between generic Linux, generic Debian-a-like, real Debian, Devuan, and Ubuntu. I am too lazy to set up every other distribution in existence in VMs, so would be every so thankful if you could let me know what distro you use, and past a copy of its /etc/os-release file to somewhere like https://pastebin.com/

One setting/feature I wish was in Files (formerly Nautilus) is the ability to exclude removable drives from the recently-used files list. "Recents" is handy and I'd like to leave it on, but what's the point of listing thumb drives that aren't even in the system?

(Same could be said of many network file shares, but that should be a separate setting. Maybe have a list of paths and addresses to ignore, like /media or 10.10.10.10:/ )
