Time to let the cat out of the bag.

I've been working on a new app to use your phones and tablets as secondary wireless "side displays" (not mirrors). This is based on , x264, APIs, and low-latency UDP streaming, and will be designed to work on both ARM and Intel, regardless of hardware acceleration support. (Testing on a )

This is still at an early stage, and will take some time to become usable. Thoughts and feedback?

Video showing a Dell XPS on the left and a Purism Librem 5 on its right. We can see the cursor opening the MirrorHall app on both devices, connecting between them through a dialog, and then using the Librem phone as a wireless display for the laptop.

For #Signal users on #Linux (and #MobileLinux), there is a poll on the community discourse to see how many people are using Signal on Desktop and where they are getting it from, if you want to chime in: https://community.signalusers.org/t/signal-on-desktop-survey/53978

Hopefully if we can show @signalapp that there is interest, they will finally claim the #Flatpak (and hopefully the #Arm version from Elagost 1 at the same time)

As part of our work to allow apps to register support for a specific URL domain;

Checkout @tbernard mockups for what a new unified “Open With” dialog would look like.

I'm very excited about this and might be able to deprecate my app Junction.

I repurposed my old Mi A1 smartphone as a Linux-based audio player!
I 3D-printed the brackets to attach the Fiio Q1 mark II DAC+AMP and enabled the USB sound card drivers in the kernel (https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/2531).
Thanks to and for making this possible! 😊

A Fiio Q1 mark II DAC+AMP is attached to the back of the smartphone with 3D-printed brackets, the two are connected with an angled USB cable at the bottom

So... it looks like there's a harrasment campaign against the developers of @postmarketOS.

Please note that the spam messages sent have nothing to do with the postmarketOS developers, and are just impersonators.

Do you have an old #PinePhone lying in the cupboard?

Dev versions of #ModemManager now support #GPS without a SIM card. Consumers of the MM API need some changes for this, so I submitted pull requests to #Geoclue (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/173), gnss-share (https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/gnss-share/-/merge_requests/15), and my own simple #GNSS app Satellite (https://codeberg.org/tpikonen/satellite/releases) (all 3 in different languages).

Soon it will be possible to use SIMless mobile phones for things like navigation and fitness tracking.

This month 15 years have passed since I've received my Openmoko Neo FreeRunner, which started my personal adventure with mobile GNU/Linux 😊

I remember wondering back in 2008 whether I should invest myself and my money in Openmoko or Android as both were at their infancy and looking interesting. In hindsight, even though Openmoko does not exist anymore, I'm convinced that I've made the right choice!

Ever wanted a potato as a #phone?

Let's rephrase that. I want a phone that belongs to me, and not to Google or Apple. So I'm daily driving the #PinephonePro with #MobileLinux (to be exact: #PostmarketOS with #SXMO).

It's been a rollercoaster ride I wouldn't want to miss. Here's the long read: https://zerwuerfnis.org/daily-driving-the-pinephone-pro

(And thank you to all the great people behind @postmarketOS for their great work so far! Keep it up! And not just so my #potato becomes less taxing to use 😉 )

Today, after nearly half a year of development, we have landed the ability to select Wi-Fi networks from the top-panel.

The best part about this feature is, now that we have decided over the structure, we can implement the same feature for Bluetooth, VPNs, etc. easily.

A big thanks to @agx for his feedback, patches and review throughout the process!

Android 14 changed the color of the low battery icon from red to white.

Recently, for some reason, I've stopped getting "Battery low" notifications at very low percents...but I still get them at 30% & 25% (I have it set to start at 30%).

...so now I rarely notice when my phone is about to die. This has interrupted me on so many occasions.

My hatred of Android has been growing exponentially lately.

My phone, despite my best efforts, works against my wishes on behalf of others.

This is a device society expects you to carry 24/7 & acts as your primary gateway to both digital & IRL services. i.e. mandatory.

is a cartel colonizing the attention spans of billions of people. It must be broken up & the project should be put under the control of a democratic organization

cannot come fast enough. I'l tolerate any level of jank to never have to touch Android again.
