Problem is that we're/they're bound by our #Nonprofit#PublicSector status to avoid discussing #capitalism as a problem or naming the political party responsible for this state of affairs @pluralistic, please advise...
Once upon a time, if you wanted to know something, you couldn't use Google & Co.
You had to move your whole body to one of the centers that offered the adequate technology: in form of objects called books, searchable by a catalog of written cards or even with the help of peoples' brains.
These people were called #librarians, the centers were called #library. Their datas were not forbidden or censored, and worked even without electricity.
Note this aside, apart from the main conclusion: "There was a statistically significant negative correlation between the number of articles published and references used in the publications. This suggests that the more faculty are likely to publish, the less they tend to use the references in the publications."
Bicycling task of the day complete. 80 lbs or more of books (cookbooks we collected but never used) donated to the local library. Thankfully, downhill... uphill would have been quite a task. The trailer alone was about 30% more effort than usual to get back uphill. Glad I only took one box!!! #BikeTooter#cycling#library#CarryShitOlympics
Our public #library is a cool place where you can learn about #gardening for free, have classes that teach you how to grow food, and grab free seeds to #growyourown food.
You also will find there all the knowledge you need to make a fine #compost at home.
This is more than a service it is what keeps our society civilized.
Libraries. Libraries are fantastic. "Here, let us collect books so you don't have to track them down and pay for them.
And we will not only let you access them, but the vast majority you can take home to read in your cozy chair. And then you get to give them BACK instead of them taking up shelf space."

Hey everyone! I am a steering committee member of the Queer Liberation Library, an all-digital non-profit library focused on queer fiction and literature. We are looking for a home for a QLL Mastodon account (that I will be running).
Looking for instance recommendations that are queer-friendly, federate with dot social, and are open to organization accounts. I think a library-specific or queer-specific instance makes a lot of sense.
