A video explaining the systemic interdepencies and promoting #Indian models for coping with it.
"Did you know that the #food we consume has a significant impact on climate change?
Our food production systems emit #GreenhouseGasEmissions [#GGE) just like #FossilFuels. But we don't talk enough about it. This is because] more than any other economic sector,...

I can agree in principle with all her tenets. I strongly doubt, however, that the many points she suggests as remedies will be nearly enough to bring #GlobalWarming back to the 1.5°C target (even adjusted for #Agriculture's impact,) as...
Perfect for a wet dreary evening: pakodas appetizer - mostly onions, chiles, cilantro, and some besan (+salt, chile powder) to bring it all together. Enough liquid in them onions to wet and hold it all. #Food#Cooking#Indian
#Malaysia's #Assam state has scrapped an 89 yr old law allowing marriage involving #underage#Muslims, against opposition from leaders of minority community who called the plan an attempt to polarise voters on religious lines ahead of elections.
Assam, which has thighest percentage of Muslims among #Indian states at 34%, has previously said it wants to implement uniform #CivilLaws for marriage, divorce, adoption & inheritance.
On Feb 18, 1946, approx. 2,000 #Indian sailors initiated a #revolt in #Mumbai, leading to the deaths of around 400 individuals by security forces’ gunfire. As the #IndianNavy laid a wreath at the Naval Uprising memorial in Cooperage on Sunday, memories of this revolt are revived, honouring the sailors whose act of bravery sparked the #mutiny’s spread to places like #Karachi, #Aden, and #SoutheastAsia, sending a clear message to the #British to relinquish their dominion.
I really don't like how all these phone #scammers from #India have primed me to suspect everyone with an #indian accent of being a scammer. It feels racist to think about, and I know the vast majority of indians aren't engaging in this sort of organized crime, and it's their government's fault for enabling it.
Hopefully international pressure can get the Indian government to do something about the level of organized crime in their country.

I've always thought it was so strange how "curry powder" in the US all tastes exactly the same--terrible. Somehow every supplier mixes it to taste identical. As a kid I thought it was literally ground up "curry" and as a result I thought I hated Indian cuisine. Not until adulthood did I realize how amazing and varied Indian food is.
Anyway, it wasn't until TODAY that I decided to actually look up the origin of that strange yellow powder that makes everything taste the same. And wow, I really shouldn't be surprised.
I know so many people who claim they don't like Indian cuisine and I always assume they're mistaken because HOW could you not love it?! I blame the "curry powder".
"We were standing in a sacred grove, or devrai, once a commonplace phenomenon across the rural Indian landscape (CPR Environmental Education Centre, n.d). These patches of forests are considered holy by nearby communities and associated with a locally revered deity. Rules and norms crafted by the elders prohibit anyone from using any produce from the forest, thus naturally allowing for the spaces to become unofficial preserves for flora and fauna. Sacred groves are like nature’s library."

"Newer ideas of sacred need to also emerge from partnerships between scientists and native communities, along with economies that are mindful of the ideas of limits and reciprocity. For the writer and biologist Robin Wall Kimmerer, To love a place is not enough, we must find ways to heal it. In many ways, the healing entails repairing broken relationships, listening to the people, attending to the land, and recognizing the patterns that bind us all, like the entangled roots of the Myristica swamps."
Aviyal (vegetable curry) - one of my favourite vegetarian/vegan recipes. The nice thing about this dish is that you can use all your favourite vegetables. I used red peppers (capsicum), swede, carrots, potato, sweet potato, red onion and peas. All cooked in coconut milk. This goes really well with a plain rice and sourdough naan. #vegan#vegetarian#curry#indian#cooking#recipe
