#ClimateDiary A short 🧵 on why #Gaza is, and should be, a concern for the climate movement. I know the vast majority of you lovely people on here do see the connection, but just in case some of you don't, I wanted to briefly outline this. For me, there are four separate, key reasons why Gaza is not a "distraction"; why all climate activists should speak out on it. #ClimateAction 1/5
Of course I am truly happy for the 4 hostages and their families to be reunited today. But I cannot stand Western media and leaders celebrating this today without even mentioning that 200 Palestinians were killed during the rescue and that IDF soldiers - as I understand it - came hidden on humanitarian aid trucks, using the humanitarian pier. And that none of this would have been necessary if Israel had accepted any of the ceasefire deals #Gaza 1/2 https://mastodon.green/@pvonhellermannn/112342311753280104
Israel has vowed to persist with its military operation in Gaza, saying it won’t engage in “meaningless” negotiations with Hamas, shortly after the United Nations Security Council overwhelmingly approved a US-backed ceasefire plan intended to bring an end to the eight-month war.

The Israeli massacre in Gaza's Nuseirat camp killed over 270 Palestinians and injured many more. Survivors say the horrors they witnessed will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
The Israeli army bombed Gazans in their tents in the "safe zone" where it told them to go. Eyewitnesses told Mondoweiss most of the dead were burned alive or decapitated and dismembered, many of them children.
“The humanitarian pier facility, including its equipment, personnel, and assets were not used in the operation to rescue hostages today in #Gaza,” says US Central Command. “An area south of the facility was used by the Israelis to safely return the hostages to Israel. Any such claim to the contrary is false. The temporary pier on the coast of Gaza was put in place for one purpose only, to help move additional, urgently needed lifesaving assistance into Gaza.”
The U.S. and 16 other countries urged Hamas and Israel to “make concessions” to secure a ceasefire deal. Meanwhile, Israel killed 40 people in a bombing of an UNRWA school in the central Gaza Strip.
San Francisco State University cancelled Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi's Palestine course. It is now available online as part of the Popular University for Gaza.
"The #protesters carried a banner that said “It is right to rebel, #Hillel go to hell,” with an inverted red triangle on it, which has come to signify support for #Hamas on social media because the terror group uses the symbol in videos of its attacks. The student demonstrators repeatedly formed inverted triangles with their hands, flashing the symbol at the counter-protesters. Another protester brandished a banner that had a #swastika inside a Star of David while shouting: “#Synagogue of Satan.”
The pro- #Palestinian, anti- #Israel demonstrators chanted “From #CUNY to #Gaza, globalize the #intifada,” and “Hillel, Hillel, what do you say? How many kids did you kill today?”
Palestinian Christians suffer from a crisis of representation, as some church leaders and community members disassociate from the Palestinian struggle and perpetuate the perception that they are a "minority."

The difference between Israel and Hamas is clear, one a democracy (with problems) and the other is a terrorist organisation. At the same time it means Israel's actions should maintain high standards with regard to innocent victims. They seem to be failing in that respect... #gaza#hamas#israel
The unfolding genocide in Gaza is the latest chapter in Israel’s attempt to remove Palestinians from their land. All those calling for a ceasefire should join in the longer-term efforts to dismantle Israeli apartheid.
I was born in the Nuseirat refugee camp and it made me who I am. The Nuseirat massacre will not be the last in Gaza, but like all massacres committed by colonialists, it will be a signpost in our long walk to freedom that will not be forgotten.
There are dangerous signs Israel intends to escalate attacks on Lebanon and raise the stakes with Hezbollah. If it does, the risk of a regional war grows enormously. The only way out is to end the fighting in Gaza.
