Instead of denouncing Hamas for kidnapping people and placing them in a civilian population and risking them - it's blaming Israel for the harm.

I assume most Israelis, the vast majority of whom distrust & loathe #Netanyahu & want him replaced, are picking up what Gantz is laying down about #Israel's real natsec interests (i.e., maintain diplomatic respect & trust with the US –which is obviously impossible w/Bibi calling the shots).

Serious Q: Have Israelis decided keeping #Bibi in power forever is worth pushing US power to the "Jews Will Not Replace Us" party (GOP) for keeps? B/c that's where all this is headed in 2024 election.

This war led Netanyahu's approval ratings to their worst in many years (maybe ever?)

IIRC he was around 30% "fit to govern" in post war polls. Much behind gantz for example. This has never been the case in recent years.

UNRWA is an organization whose funding and purpose depends on perpetuating the Palestinian refugee problem.

They don't exist to solve a problem, they exist to prolong it.

A significant portion of the 32K killed are genocidal Hamas militants. Some of the civilians killed, were killed by Hamas's own rockets and bullets

The rest are intentionally put in harms way by Hamas.

Not destroying Hamas would mean this tragedy will repeat again and again, and all this will be in vain

After 3.5 months where #Ukraine had the initiative, now it is #Russia which is more actively attacking, while Ukrainian forces try to not lose territory.

With winter fastly approaching, it is highly likely that Russia will get to hold the acquired territories undisturbed at least until May 2024.

13 months left to the #US #Presidential elections, where #Biden and the #democrats are in difficulty. Simply enduring these 13 months may do the trick for #Putin

@fnord99 the western allies support was reduced to a level that forced Ukraine to switch to attrition in active defense

The Russians are burning through huge amounts of resources for virtually no gains.

The Russians can't really sustain this over time, the Russian public will not necessarily allow another mobilization as they are being destroyed in Ukraine

I can't wait for the f16s to start affecting the battle too

In conversation w a friend, she was surprised when I said we won't have electricity after social collapse. She asked "why? What happens to electricity?"

I had to then explain that infrastructure needs people to maintain and if things fall apart, nobody will keep the generators going or the wires in check. She seemed surprised by this.

Is this why people don't seem worried about what's coming? They have no idea???

I was trying to hide my shock that I had to explain this to someone who isn't a child. I think I take too much for granted and assume too much of people's ability to be logical.

Now her obsession with social issues at the expense of makes sense. I was always wondering how someone on the left would not care about collapse. I have tried to explain before that as much as I share her concerns about the many dire issues that do need dealing with, none of it matters if climate change causes collapse. Then we won't have social housing, or equity, or any of the other things she cares about. (she was even part of a group that protested demanding "affordable gas")

Her look of shock finally helped me realize that she has absolutely no idea what means. No idea. I've been arguing with her all these years and she's had no idea.

I don't even know what to say.

There's no way she's the only one. Lots of well intentioned people say "yes climate is important but....".

I am here to tell you that none of those other issues will even exist in the face of climate and social collapse.

I don't know if the average person can even imagine the number of deaths that we are facing when the society we built loses electricity.

The alternative to nuclear isn't green energy

It's fossil fuels. Transitioning to green energy takes a lot of time, and nuclear is essential during this transition or we'll burn a lot more co2 into the atmosphere
