The guide provides every option available, too. Starting with using their Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), to using a Virtual Machine, and even on "Bare Metal" alongside Windows.
That's right, Microsoft now tells you how to dual-boot Linux. 🤯
Here is my new GNU/Linux distribution guide about Debian KDE 12, the right GNU/Linux distribution for professional digital painting in 2024! Also about three major problems with GNU/Linux distros that will drive away all professional artists, IMO, and how I got kicked out of the Fedora KDE ecosystem with F40, which imposed Plasma6 and Wayland. I hope it helps other artists here!
We don't wish to ruin our own surprise anniversary party, but we'd like to share that we celebrate 30 years of Debian on August 17 of this year. Join us! Plenty of Cheese and Cake to be had. :) Organize your very own Debian Day! https://wiki.debian.org/DebianDay/2023#debian#debianday
If you are out there happily applying the new #Debian pointrelease - DO NOT REBOOT into the updated #linux#kernel. It contains a serious (and silent) #data#corruption#bug that MAY (not must) affect you.
Fixes are in preparation, but builds will take a bit to complete.
Meanwhile, #Debian is considering rolling #xz back not only to the point before the backdoor was added, but to where the person who wrote the backdoor hadn't contributed any code to xz yet.
Which means considering creating patches to fix ABI breakage such a rollback would cause.
25 years ago today, Google was founded.
On the same day, I wiped Windows 98 off my computer, believing that Debian Linux (which I had been using for a while but still kept Windows on another partition) could do everything I had been doing with Windows until then.
Since that day, many installations of Linux, *BSD, MacOS have graced my computers, but Windows has remained, on a few occasions, only an occasional (unwelcome) guest.
In the spirit of a typical support group phrase, I can joyfully say:
'Hello, I'm Stefano, and I haven't been using Windows as my primary operating system for 25 years.'
Finally putting my x230 to rest, the last sudo poweroff. Hardware is failing beyond the point that makes continuing to repair it worthwhile.
On this laptop I deployed nearly 60 servers (most for at risk groups), 12 tech art projects (solo & collab, some toured worldwide), & gave many lectures & workshops.
If there was ever a loyal and electric steed, it was this x230. It ran #Debian & was good.
I bought it in 2015, for EUR145 on the German eBay, 2nd hand.
Due to an issue in ext4 with data corruption in kernel 6.1.64-1, we are a pausing the 12.3 image release for today while we attend to fixes. Please do not update any systems at this time, we urge caution for users with UnattendeUpgrades configured.
#Debian#gnulinux running on 13 year old Dell desktop computers largely powered the internet phone banking operation in #OliviaChow's Scarborough campaign office in the #Toronto mayoral election. This is these old e-waste candidate computer's second election victory! #topoli
This is a group of rovers which will collaboratively and autonomously drive around on the moon. They're using Debian for all the dev machines and the rovers themselves.
Three flawless upgrades from #Debian Bullseye to Debian Bookworm. Another round of thanks for all the hard work that happens behind the scene to deliver this absolute monument of open source!
Time for some new devices!
OnePlus 8, Pixel 6, and Pixel Tablet now can run Droidian at a near feature complete state!
Including Pixel 6 and Lenovo Thinkphone, Droidian is now only a single generation behind the latest chips.
All of these devices will soon be added to our installer, but nightly images are currently available.
> After observing a few odd symptoms around liblzma (part of the xz package) on Debian sid installations over the last weeks (logins with ssh taking a lot of CPU, valgrind errors) I figured out the answer:
> The upstream xz repository and the xz tarballs have been backdoored.
