I see some people are really disappointed about Debian packaging a stripped-down version of KeePassXC. But hey, I actually wish there was also a minimal @thunderbird package without integrations of IRC or Matrix etc, just with core email functionality.

Little upgrade on the SFF as a desktop:

Amazing experience! 😎
The system uses roughly around 20 - 30 Watts under normal desktop usage - peaking at 60 when the load is high.
Not going back to the anytime soon... just don't need the power.
Besides: It is quiet and cool - like that a lot.

Running with on it and also have two vm's that I run most of the time.
Also: There is a spare NVMe in there... room for more fun 😎

The attitude shown by the packager who insists on going against the will of @keepassxc devs, in this comment: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc/issues/10725#issuecomment-2104401817 is… wow 🤦

This "packagers thinking they know better than the developers, and unilaterally patching things" mentality, along with distros often shipping outdated versions, is why many upstream software developers dislike dealing with Debian (& any LTS distro), and now ask users to test/run versions of their applications first and foremost.

Debian Users - Be aware the maintainer of the KeePassXC package for Debian has unilaterally decided to remove ALL features from it. You will need to switch to keepassxc-full to maintain capabilities once this lands outside of testing/sid.

There are some serious issues with repos. As well as with everyother Debian based distro repos.

For the last 4 months :

  • A Mint (Cinnamon) APT upgrade broke my system. Well, sh.... happens. Unsatisfying troubleshooting led me to install Debian 12.
  • Debian 12 (Cinnamon) works fine. As a complete noob it's a little bit harder to set. But it works. Until it doesn't, when APT depots are someday broken or unsafe. Wtf those were the ones installed by default !

@nilesh I've been using Ubuntu since v16 and never knew I could install .deb packages with the GUI until, now when I can't 🤷‍♂️ (as I am on 24).

I guess before long I'll be back on Debian.

The good thing is that we can easily leave behind. Windows and Mac are much harder for people to leave.

I have a new laptop on the way and was forced to accept Windows on it. So maybe instead of Ubuntu I'll install Mint 🤔

On 11, the whole system along with was taking 500 MB of RAM. On Debian 12, the system takes 850 MB of RAM. On Trixie/Sid-unstable, it takes 1.3 GB. I honestly don't know what they're shoving in it.

With and , it takes 1.6 GB on idle. Since when Cinnamon, a gnome2/gtk3 fork takes (or should take) as much RAM as Gnome4/gtk4? Something's amiss.
