The kind of people who would modify their car’s exhaust to be louder also scored high on the “psychopathy and sadism” scale.

Serious question: Why is it that bicycle commuters in Paris are in super stylish street clothes, whereas the ones in London dress like they're in the Tour de France?

The IPCC says* it’s unequivocal that humans are responsible for global heating and our GHG emissions are responsible for 100% of the recent warming.

Preindustrial atmospheric CO₂ was ~280 ppm and now it’s >420 ppm, so we’re responsible for 33% of what’s in the atmosphere (not 3%).

*When I say “the IPCC says…”, that’s shorthand for “some of the world’s best scientists volunteered years of their time pouring over tons of peer reviewed publications and summarized their conclusions to say…”.

It’s so crazy that climate deniers think humans don’t cause climate change but volcanic eruptions do.

The eruption of Mount St. Helens released ~10 Mt of CO₂ into the atmosphere.

Human activities currently release that amount of CO₂ in ~2 hours.

Any carbon dioxide removal (CDR) method that draws in a lot of air or water — like direct air capture or direct ocean removal — should consider the ecosystem consequences of drawing in a lot of insects, microbes, small animals, plankton, invertebrate larvae, and fish larvae, etc.

Only in a world that has no intention of decarbonizing does this make sense.

Honest question: I measure gases as a career, and I’m always fixing leaks in my instruments*. How do people who push #hydrogen as a home heating solution propose to avoid catastrophic leaks?

*I use Swagelok fittings, the same ones used on airplanes and in industrial settings.

Does knowing that hydrogen and helium are the only gases that heat up when they leak, whereas other gases cool down, change people’s minds about using hydrogen widely?

Lamppost EV chargers are the answer to how you charge your vehicle in cities.

This is possible because when energy intensive street lamps were replaced by LEDs, there’s excess power for charging EVs.

All cities should do this. ⚡️

People who talk about an “EV bubble” should know that decarbonization of the transport sector will happen no matter what we do. So we could choose to do it on our own terms or let air pollution from ICEs kill a lot more people and then have to switch to EVs when the world runs out of oil.
