@gnate@davidho Probably having a parent who owns a Toyota dealership. If a b-school student really is interested in electric cars, they're probably driving a Tesla, or a BMW.
@davidho the researcher’s formal title must be Captain Obvious 😂
I had a run in with one of those dumb “rolling coal” trucks just last weekend, where they pulled up next to a bunch of cyclists on the side of a country road and then coated them with a black cloud. So stupid.
@btschumy I was a reviewer of the MRV chapter and it’s good. It’s a lot of effort to put something like this together and I’m glad someone is doing it.
Serious question: Why is it that bicycle commuters in Paris are in super stylish street clothes, whereas the ones in London dress like they're in the Tour de France?
@davidho Part of it could be that Paris has recently built a ton of bike infrastructure. Roadies will get their ride in no matter what, but people are much more likely to do their daily transit on a bike when there's good infra.
@peter@brett@davidho yes, and notably Paris has carved the space for low-stress connected network of bikeways out of what was extra lanes of cars and parking, so normies who would previously sit in traffic for lack of better options have left the car for bikes, for trips of 1-3 miles to work, school, shopping, or errands. If everyone on a bike looks like they're dressed for sport, you're seeing only those people who do it in spite of the lack of comfortable and dignified bike infrastructure.
The IPCC says* it’s unequivocal that humans are responsible for global heating and our GHG emissions are responsible for 100% of the recent warming.
Preindustrial atmospheric CO₂ was ~280 ppm and now it’s >420 ppm, so we’re responsible for 33% of what’s in the atmosphere (not 3%).
*When I say “the IPCC says…”, that’s shorthand for “some of the world’s best scientists volunteered years of their time pouring over tons of peer reviewed publications and summarized their conclusions to say…”.

@davidho I was living in North Dakota at the time. We barely had any snow the following winter. I’m no scientist , but I’m sure it was due to the ash lingering in the atmosphere.
In talking about the shortcomings of carbon capture and storage #CCS, we talk a lot about the failures of capture and not enough about the failures of storage.
@tshirtman@davidho
Fort probable, ça depend de l'information dont on parle.
Certaines ne sont même pas dignes d'être suivie.
Donc je ne suis pas un "everybody".
@ZikZak
on parle d'une personne aussi déplorable qu'influente, qu'on ignorerait volontiers, mais qui rends ça difficile, ayant été président des USA. @davidho
"The market for carbon offsets shrank dramatically last year, falling from $1.9bn (£1.5bn) in 2022 to $723m in 2023, a new report has found. The drop came after a series of scientific and media reports found many offsetting schemes do nothing to mitigate the climate crisis…"
I'm shocked! Shocked to find that "[s]ome of the world’s most profitable – and most polluting corporations – have invested in carbon offset projects that have fundamental failings and are 'probably junk'"
