A thread with some facts about mental health and well-being at work.
In 2022, Deloitte surveyed 2100 employees, managers, and C-Suite executives in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia as part of their Well-Being at Work Survey.
Some takeaways:
one-third of employees struggle with mental health and well-being
while executives are not exempt from mental health issues, they underestimate how much their employees are struggling
Don't get me wrong: It's good if individuals do "their part" in tackling the climate crisis, by changing their habits and lifestyles, but blaming them, when its clearly the #capitalist system's fault is just wrong.
Be #vegan, consume sustainably, ride your #bike, don't fly.
There are many good reasons to do so, e.g.:
👉 it's the right thing to do
👉 it's healthy
👉 you're a role-model for others
👉 if many people do this, it slightly changes how companies act.
👉 it fosters your awareness for the issues
But also be aware that its a droplet on a hot stone. Non-wealthy individuals won't fix the climate with their daily choices. We have to demand action by the big players.
And I don't mean blame China!
All of us need to demand radical climate action by our governments.
Coming from a guy that makes $395,000 per year (not including benefits) and gave his cabinet raises of at least 30k (high end of 70k), this is some cracker jack stuff
VW is raising workers’ wages 11% because of competition from unionized manufacturers, even though their workers aren’t unionized. Hyundai announced a 25% wage increase over the next four years, even though their workers aren’t unionized.
#Unions raise wages for everyone, not just unionized employees. Imagine how much greater workers’ bargaining power would be if more would #unionize.
Today is Labor Day for our American colleagues, and it's a perfect occasion to discuss reasons for unionization.
Some facts:
Workers' productivity has steadily grown in the past 45 years, yet their pay hasn't kept up with this increase. The workers generate more profits each year, but these profits do not return to workers proportionally to their productivity levels.
My job's return-to-office mandate is about to kick in, and I figure for all the annoyance that comes with, being IRL with fellow workers will provide good opportunities to subtly but persistently tap the "Hey maybe unions are good actually" sign. Trouble is, I have zero experience in that area. Any good resources on union evangelizing in small tech companies and related opsec? #tech#union#unionize#returnToOffice
They've also always had MUCH higher-than-average fast food #prices.
Portillo's can afford to pay better #wages, that's for sure. And their employees are among the most overworked & overstressed in the industry, from what I've seen.
It's currently owned by corporate giant #BerkshireProperties, after founder Dick Portillo sold the company (including several smaller restaurants, like #HoneyJamCafe) in 2014. #Berkshire went public in 2021.
My family has tended to be loyal customers, but we won't be crossing any picket lines, thank you-- not even for their chocolate cake.
Workers unite! Form unions to gain collective strength against bosses. Recognize that harm to one worker reflects the systemic exploitation affecting all workers. We have a world to win!
