The Far Right’s Campaign to Explode the Population >>
"The threat, we are told here this weekend, is existential, #biological, epoch-defining. Economies will fail, #civilizations will fall, and it will all happen because people aren’t having enough #babies.
“The entire global #financial system, the value of your money, and every #asset you might buy with money is defined by leverage, which means its value depends on growth...." >>
>> ...away from the corrupting influences of #public#school and #sex ed. (#Christian couples, he adds, have “the best, most orgasmic sex,” citing no research or surveys to support this.) To protect these households, we must abolish no-fault #divorce, declares Brit Benjamin...Until relatively recently, Benjamin was married to Patri Friedman — grandson of economist Milton Friedman — the founder of the #Seasteading Institute, a Peter #Thiel-backed effort to build new #libertarian enclaves at sea.>
If you identify as a #Libertarian and you think it makes any sense for #trump to speak at your convention, then you are clearly in denial because he is obviously a #fascist#autocrat
I will also ask on the #LibrarySocialism message board I joined, but I'm curious about the answer from Fedi folks. I see mention of #Libertarian#Socialism within LibrarySocialism circles. What is the connection? Did one spring from the other? Common cause? Rebranding for better optics?
The possibility of that last one has me cautious. If this is another TESCREAL offshoot then I have concerns. I don't get that vibe from the SRSLY WRONG folks behind the forum, but I'm also brand new to this.
There is also state level research, that shows similar results: researchers at the #CATOInstitute, a #CONSERVATIVE#LIBERTARIAN think tank, looked into #Texas in 2019. They found that undocumented #immigrants were 37.1% less likely to be convicted of a #crime.
Workers unite! Form unions to gain collective strength against bosses. Recognize that harm to one worker reflects the systemic exploitation affecting all workers. We have a world to win!
One of Susquehanna’s richest bets was purchasing a 15 percent stake in TikTok’s parent company, #ByteDance, in 2012;
according to the Wall Street Journal, Yass’ personal stake in the company is about seven percent.
I don’t want an internet where 90% of traffic and electricity is wasted to make generative „AI“ and their investors happy while their energy hunger destroys our planet. I want an internet that shares knowledge for free for everyone, so we can build a better world.
Today 10 years ago Aaron Swartz committed suicide, after being arrested by MIT police and prosecuted by the then U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Carmen Ortiz for massively downloading academic journal articles from JSTOR. He was charged $1 million in fines and 35 years in prison. He was 26 years old.
He believed that, above anything else, information should be free.
The folks at #Macrodose are talking perfectly seriously about something called "anarcho-capitalism". I'm embarrassed for them.
No, guys, that does not work. It is a contradiction in terms. It cannot exist. If there are no laws, there is no property. Which means that no one can own the means of production, no one can own the land, no one can sell their labour...
If you want a system in which there are no laws except those which protect the rich and powerful, that's not any kind of anarchism. If those laws can't be overturned by the will of the people, then it's an oligarchy, and an oligarchy of the most authoritarian kind.
Anyone who claims to be either an #Anarchist or a #Libertarian but wants to preserve the right to property is a liar and a fraud. Distrust everything they say.
Today in Labor History February 13, 1837: A Flour Riot occurred in New York City. 6,000 New Yorkers, attending a "bread, meat, rent, and fuel" meeting in Chatham Square, assaulted local flour merchants who they claimed were hoarding flour in order to drive up the price. The Locofocos (a libertarian-like faction of the Democratic Party that opposed Tammany Hall) organized a public protest against runaway prices that turned into a riot. The police arrested 40 people.
If we live in a good place, with opportunities and prosperity, we should invite other people to join us and share in those opportunities and prosperity.
At minimum, we should not prohibit others from moving for a better life for them and their family.
@kroltanz@knittingknots2 The problem with the #Libertarian party is that they're very principled but with no common sense or understanding of human nature. 🙄
Dealing with a delayed flight for a relative that nixed the future connection so had to rebook. Everything about this process has been slow, frustrating and dehumanizing. It's been a horrible #UX from many angles.
This is exactly what late-stage #capitalism has wrought: a low-cost solution that is devoid of any convenience, joy, or humanity. For the #libertarian bros out there, I get that I'm advocating for 'inefficiency' because it comes at a great cost. We are better than this.
The Balaji Fund, backed by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and other wealthy tech players, aims to fund “Network States” free of ‘overbearing’ regulations.
(right wing) libertarianism is a fundamentally colonial ideology. Every major thinker in that movement, from Ayn Rand, to Murray Rothbard, to Ludwid von Misses has some incoherent justification for why their so-beloved private property rights don't extend to Indigenous people whose land was stolen.
#Far-right candidates won elections in both the Netherlands and Argentina. In the Netherlands, Geert Wilders won the most seats in parliament with an anti-immigrant, #anti-Muslim platform. In Argentina, Javier Milei won the presidency promising a radically #libertarian economic program.
