Went to the clinic for jabby stabbies ahead of a conference trip to India.

The trip is on... Sunday...

IN MY DEFENSE I was invited to speak quite late, we were landing on the Moon, and my Hep A/B vaccine is... acceptably... up-to-date.

Was given typhoid and tetanus jabbies, and told if I got malaria I wouldn't know about it until I got back to Japan, and they could cure me, it'd just be unpleasant.

My doctor is a practical fellow!

NASA will perform a "rollout" ceremony of X-59, the "quiet" supersonic aircraft, tomorrow Friday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. ET.

A rollout is the first public display of a fully assembled aircraft. First flight will take place months later.

The X-59 is being developed by the "Skunk Works" at Lockheed Martin. It is expected to cruise at Mach 1.42 at an altitude of 16,800 m and create a very low level sonic boom, unlike that of past supersonic aircraft.

My wife must have overhead me pining for the sweet embrace of insobriety, because the first thing she did, after I finished my morning cuppa, was to pour me a generous glass of sherry. And every time I turn my back, the glass mysteriously tops itself off. I've been enthusiastically sipping from the same glass for 6 hours now and it shows no sign of emptying. It's almost mythological in it's durability.

Except that the sherry bottle (I bought one of those 2l bottles with the little handle last week) is now empty. Also the floor isn't quite as stable as it should be. And I've never been so chatty or relaxed or generally at peace with the world.
