“If you’re calling for the arrest of protesters who are simply engaging in First Amendment activities on public space, then you’re exposing yourself as a partisan ...”
"Using shields, batons and flashbang explosives, Calgary police officers forcibly removed a group of protesters Thursday night from an encampment set up on the University of Calgary campus."
People are now not even allowed to protest for the rights of Palestine in University of Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia police cleared an anti-Israel encampment at the University of Pennsylvania. The cops in riot gear removed and arrested over 30 pro-Palestinian protesters after 16 days of demonstrations on campus.
“Youth are the conscience of our world and their voices are the moral compass that guide us to a better future. Rather than brutalize them and criminalize their protest actions, we must encourage them to continue to stand for justice, human rights and dignity for all humanity.”
Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, the grandson Nelson Mandela
I've just boosted this, but wanted to really stress how this simple message seems to me to sum up the manner in which the media colludes with our political elites to stifle & stamp down on dissent:
'Judging a demonstration by its most violent participants but NOT judging a policy force by its most violent cops is the language of the oppressor'!
We see this again & again, and I've seldom see the criticism so concisely or saliently put.

NEW EPISODE: This week on the podcast, we're delving into our weird obsession with the Nutri-Score food labels used in 8 European countries.
Why might chamomile tea get a C rating when a diet cola gets an A? And does Giorgia Meloni have a point in claiming the ratings are biased against Italians?
We're also talking about Georgia's protests and a scary moment in German politics.
AFTER RAIDS, NYPD DENIED STUDENT PROTESTERS WATER AND FOOD IN JAIL
STUDENTS ARRESTED DURING the police crackdown on protests at universities in New York City last week were denied water and food for 16 hours, according to two faculty members at Columbia University’s Barnard College who collected reports from students who were inside.
Other students reported that they were beaten by New York City Police Department officers after their arrests and taken to the hospital for injuries before being returned to central booking. Photos of the injuries were provided to The Intercept.
The grandson of Israeli captive Oded Lifshitz, 84, says his family has not heard anything about the condition of his grandfather in six months.
“It’s impossible that we are even speaking seven months after about the release of old people. It’s against humanity … I prefer there will be no more suffering for civilians on the Palestinian side and our side and there’s an agreement to end that.”

#Quebec Premier #FrançoisLegault is facing criticism from opposition parties for asking police to dismantle the pro-Palestinian encampment on the #McGillUniversity campus.
Despite the premier's remarks and a recent closed-door meeting between the protesters and the school's administration, the group says it has no plans to leave their encampment.
More scenes from MIT Pro-Palestine encampments at Kresge Oval last evening. Despite counter-protests and disruptions to traffic, the past 24 hours were largely peaceful.
I recommend following The Tech, MIT's student newspaper, for their relentless coverage of events on campus.
25 years ago, the polis would have ben sent in with horses and truncheons. I like to think we have got better than that, but it is a thin line. Just as well Baddenoch, Braverman, Patel and the rest of the party have been persuaded that this would be ‘bad optics’
While this report by @guardian could be improved by refraining from describing deputized, state-sanctioned violence as "anarchy" and playing into the statist "anarchy = violent chaos" trope, this is otherwise good reporting which you won't find anywhere in the NYT these days.
So..It’s time for a change…
Raise your voice to the air
It’s time for a change
Revolution is here
This is our song,
our rights now expressed
There’s power in our voice
There’s strength in our words
When the whole world is silent,
Our voice must be heard.
This is our song #Revolution is set
