Please - if you use Mastodon regularly, pay for your use of the platform.

I find it insane that Stux - who runs mstdn.social is paying out of pocket every month to keep mstdn.social alive, because people are not funding the platform they use enough to cover the bare running costs, let alone the admin time he puts in.

please, look up who is running your server and pay them money. You are costing them, personally, money.

Thank you.

@mattwilcox I happily give my $8/mo "blue check fee" to my masto host (fosstodon.org). The auto-pay is super easy, and I know I'm helping keep it sustainable for the admins.

Four-mile #run which kicked my butt pretty bad.

I was tired when I got home from work and was tempted by the cheap energy of a mini Mountain Dew BUT I meditated for 10 minutes instead, calmed my brain (my brain gets amped up when I get tired, ‘cause I can’t reign it in anymore), and then went for the run.

So now I’m even more tired, but it’s the good kind of tired and my brain settled down. #GeekFitness #Running

@nukehavoc bravo; I need to get back on the meditation train.

What's everybody using to make their talk slides these days?

I've given a number of talks, but they've been spread out enough over the years that I've never developed deep familiarity with any one tool. I've mostly used PowerPoint and Keynote.

If you use reveal.js, do you use the basic setup? Full install? Hosted version?

coreysnipes,
@coreysnipes@fosstodon.org avatar

@ehmatthes PPT all day. It's the defacto standard at my day job, which means I'm in it all the time, thus it's by far the fastest for me to build.

Also, I know it is going to work on 100% of the venue laptops I encounter.

We like to think we’re free.

Don’t we?

Free to choose our path, pursue our dreams, and be who we want to be.

But for most of us, that freedom is an illusion.

We’re so tied up in the shit that we don’t want to do, the shit we trapped ourselves into, that our freedom is long gone.

@Daojoan Super timely. Just this month I've been actively drawing back from a couple of long-running commitments. They are a significant time suck I realized they are keeping me from advancing other parts of my life which are more important to me.

At the end of the street where I’ve lived for thirty years stands an unassuming blue building housing Zorba’s Gyro on a Spit, a restaurant I’ve frequented for even longer. An ode to my favorite diner, a comforting home away from home, a place where I watch everybody but me group up. https://louplummer.lol/post/ode-to-zorba-s-gu-yf1gj

Supposedly someone in Kentucky using Chrome on Windows is trying to log into my LinkedIn account.

First, I'm sorry you are in Kentucky, and have to use Windows... at least dump Chrome for Firefox, and what the hell are you gonna do with my LinkedIn account? Get me a new job!?

coreysnipes,

@rasterweb I've seen other people post about this, and I have received a similar email, and I'm pretty sure it's a phish (not from LinkedIn).

@rasterweb Now that you mention it I've gone back and taken a closer look at mine, and all the mail headers and links in the email look legitimate. This came in to an email address not associated with my LinkedIn account though, which was a red flag for me, but... hm. Bardstown, KY is given as the approximate location in the message though. Weird!

Picked up my first pair of Altra trail shoes (Outroad 2) today. I took a short run and I like them so far. I like Altra's commitment to the natural human foot shape, with the wide toe box and zero drop. At least I like the idea of it. Saturday's 5K will tell me more.
