Gore and Lore in Fallout – Campaigns & Coffee

#Fallout - the post-apocalyptic game set in an alternate, atomic-powered reality - kicks off our new Campaigns & Coffee short-format podcast. With the sound of laughter echoing through the vast caverns of the Lair, hosts Ken, David, and Josh talk about the new #Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime, the video games that inspired it, and the session zero for our upcoming #Fallout2d20 actual play.

@lairofsecrets It is such a relief to get Season 4 out there.

Life's been challenging for the crew over the last few months. I'm supremely grateful that we're still able to get together to chat, laugh, sling some dice, and geekout about things like #Fallout

Working on my campaign for : Chapter 14: A Murder of Vrocks

Playing around with how to bring back Dance of Ruin, since it got nerfed in 5e (and by "nerfed" I mean "totally eliminated").

At least they have demons-summoning demons as a variant rule, because what's a little chaos without more CHAOS?

While doing my Vrock research, I came across this cool article on En World:

Monster ENCyclopedia: Vrock
https://www.enworld.org/threads/monster-encyclopedia-vrock.692272/page-3

It gives a history of the demon throughout the various editions, including dives into the monster's appearances modules like S4: The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and Heart of Nightfang Spire.

Tonight was the first session of our co-op/solo game, in which we come together for co-op sessions, then venture off on solo treks which we chronicle in a wiki.

nukehavoc,
@nukehavoc@dice.camp avatar

And it was pretty damned cool. We came up with some great quests for our individual characters. I can't wait to see where they take us.

@nukehavoc@dice.camp avatar

@grueproof @SaltyMonk Yeah, it's still early days. Once things settle down, though, I think it'd be cool to share it.

Yes. Yes I am.

Decided to take an exercise break today, 'cause the last few days kicked my butt.

nukehavoc, to running
@nukehavoc@dice.camp avatar

No exercise this weekend, but I got moving again yesterday with a 4-mile run (which kicked my butt somewhat less than the prior run).

All told I walked/ran 9.9 miles, which is better than my goal of 8 miles a day. Today I walked to work, and will hopefully get in another run/jog this afternoon. #GeekFitness #RunGeekRun #Running

nukehavoc,
@nukehavoc@dice.camp avatar

Successfully got in the run; totally of 10.6 miles yesterday. Today I’ve got a lot of mtgs, so we’ll see what happens.

Ok, it's late but ... maybe I can squeeze in a movie that is big, but not dumb: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Or at least the first part of it.

The Helm of Positivity came into play during tonight's game, in which the paladin Valinor summoned a wall of radiance.

And damn, is that thing bright or what?

The shadows I'd planned to ambush the party with were forced to retreat from the brilliant light, which also revealed their original corpses in the nearby lake.

Those corpses - nicely pickled - led the group to suspect there is a black dragon lair nearby.

nukehavoc,
@nukehavoc@dice.camp avatar

But before they go dragon hunting ... they need to rescue a downed angel.

And before they can get the angel, they have to fight the nine vrock who'd been searching for the angel themselves ... and are now converging on the party's radiant skybeam.

It's gonna be a fun fight when we reconvene in two weeks!

nukehavoc,
@nukehavoc@dice.camp avatar

Overall, this was a good session. I haven't DMed in a few weeks, so I felt a little rusty. And was being super annoying when it came to drawing and then moving shapes. I'm not sure exactly what causes it to manifest the "hand" option that lets you drag things, but it's infuriatingly inconsistent.

shadow dragons are sad and depressing, and not in a cool, goth-like way like Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice.

Unlike , there's no shadow blend (total concealment in shadows), its breath weapon doesn't drain levels, and it can't summon shadows 3x per day.

And it doesn't have the spell-like abilities of the of mirror image, dimension door, non-detection, and shadow walk.

nukehavoc,
@nukehavoc@dice.camp avatar

@pteryx Agreed. My favorite monsters tend not to come from Wizards' books. My go-to books are Kobold Press' Tome of Beasts (volumes 1-3) and the Creature Codex.
