Went out to bring in my trash cans this morning and was shocked how nice it was outside! So, instead of painting two closets like I had planned to, I went for a hike in the hills above Hidden Valley. Made this photo of the Reno-Sparks region (Truckee Meadows) about three quarters of the way up to the ridge line behind Hidden Valley. It's a bit of a hump up that hill, especially because I couldn't find my treking poles, which I found when I got home.

St. Theodosius Russian Orthodox Cathedral. One of the many beautiful and elaborate churches in the Cleveland area. Completed in 1913 and considered one of the finest examples of Russian church architecture in the US. This church appeared in the 1978 film "The Deer Hunter".

No one knows wtf they're doing with DNS any more, they just add a load of random TXT records as instructed by Google/Mailchimp/Sendgrid/etc until it works.

Sunday-at-home edition of #3GoodThings
Today I'm grateful for:

  • Drama-free family holidays
  • My daughter will talk with us when she feels sad or depressed. Mostly her mom, but that's fine as long as she feels like she has a good connection in the family for stuff like that. I am glad she doesn't just shut everyone out.
  • Christmas lights are going up all around the neighborhood.

  • Kindred people I have met here on Mastodon
  • Knowing that I'm not the only tech person dissatisfied with the state and direction of technology
  • Nearby access to woods, and the physical ability to go hiking

Big day today: I onboarded my first user to my side project.

Welcome mom! 🙃

The app is still very very rough but I'm dying to learn if it has real utility.

We bulldozed through a bunch of bugs together and managed to land on the home screen. 😊

And now... we wait.

I brought it as far as I can on my own. It has to click with other people now to make it worth pursuing.

Can anyone help me with the problem I'm having with my neighbour?

A while ago my neighbour kicked me. So I've been going round his house every day, unlocking the basement where I keep him and giving him a good kick, in self-defence.

Anyway, recently the bastard kicked me again. The situation has really become intolerable.

I'm currently kicking him to within an inch of his life until his violence stops.

Some friends are starting to say I should stop it. AITA?

Strong agree; I built a very rudimentary meetup replacement a couple of years ago when WeWork purchased Meetup.com, but it was a side project and lacked many important features (even though it was enough for my group).

I started to revive the project this fall because I still hate Meetup and there's still a wide interest, but of course here's Framasoft with a beautiful solution.

Should I get a #drone for inspecting my property (roof - lots of it is not accessible from inside the house - and gutters, etc) and also obviously for Fun™?

My main worry about getting 'into' drones (besides cost, obv) is they seem to be increasingly illegal to operate anyplace interesting, like say, your suburban home 2.5mi from a small airport. (Also, loud AF, unless you go even more expensive…)
