“Rishi Sunak blocked veterans using their IDs at polling stations over fears it could “open the floodgates” to more students voting, a cabinet minister has revealed
Veterans minister Johnny Mercer complained he had tried “for months without success” to convince Downing Street to let veterans use their IDs to vote”
…If sunak wants to know about vote rigging all he has to do is to call trump
Now, everyone is so furious about OpenAI stealing a beloved celebrity's voice. But what about the many artists, writers/authors, and creators whose copyrighted works OpenAI stole to create works resembling and replacing those people's products? Not famous enough to generate the same outrage, right? At least now, everyone knows how bad Sam Altman is. He thinks he is above the law. I'm glad someone is standing up to this bully and I hope something good come out of it.
@arstechnica
I'm full-blown diabetic and my doctor just put me on Ozempic to bring down my recently rising A1C. Would be terrible if a tag team of greedy drug companies, Tiktokers, trendy stars, and fashionistas ruined this for people who actually need it. Not to mention maybe toppling the entire health-care system, bad as it is in the U.S.
There's some diaspora #Asians on Vancouver Island (and several other places in Global North) who have severe #InternalizedRacism, to the point that they're not just #indoctrinated into #colonialism & capitalism but they're so self unaware of internalized racism that they don't even know when racist white folks #tokenize them to defend/justify racism & use them to push WS beliefs on their own peoples.
I lose my fu*king shit around Asians like this. They harm us Asians who fight for human rights.
Here's the other thing: Colonial governments love exploiting #IdentityPolitics. They benefit from #BIPOC folks who suffer from #InternalizedRacism. It's part of the #DivideAndConquer colonialism playbooks. They provide extra rewards to #POC people who are willing to #whitewash & defend almost anything, to non-white folks willing to sell their souls & willing to enact harms on their own peoples. They depend on both #greed & #desperation to exploit BIPOC with internalized racism issues.
“Lib Dems ‘on course to topple leading Tories’ in general election
(…) the results put them on course to challenge the chancellor Jeremy Hunt and the housing and communities secretary Michael Gove in Surrey, and the justice secretary Alex Chalk in Cheltenham”
…Don’t stop there
There’s much good work to be done removing rees-mogg, braverman & sunak.
“A Tory MP has begged local members in his constituency for help after he was caught short without voter ID ahead of local elections
Tom Hunt, MP for Ipswich asked local members to act as his “emergency proxy” after he found that he had no appropriate ID to vote in the local council elections”
“Tory council splashed £54,000 on Mayoral chauffeur in same month it declared bankruptcy
Thurrock Council, which has hiked bills for local taxpayers after running into financial trouble, faces questions about its use of money over the lucrative chauffeur contract”
…I guess they think if rich! sunak & cameron can private jet around then a chauffeur is quite in order
“Tyson Foods dumped millions of pounds of toxic pollutants directly into American rivers and lakes over the last five years, threatening critical ecosystems, endangering wildlife and human health, a new investigation reveals.
@GottaLaff#FactoryFarming is a filthy, virus- and infection-filled cruel business that guarantees astronomical suffering of every animal victim exploited. The future, if we're to have one, is #vegan. Otherwise, we deserve the hellish extinction we have guaranteed for ourselves. #Greed doesn't excuse this carnage.
US research suggests that 92 minutes is the optimum length for a film. But I have sat through long films that felt short and short films that felt buttock-annihilatingly long....
@ronanmcd I'm not finished with the entirety of it yet but it's fascinating and infuriating - and vital reading. Once again and not at all surprising, #greed is at the bottom of every human fuck-up.
I remember folks in the web community shunning me when I first started speaking out against Big Tech – because I was criticising their friends who worked at Google, Facebook, etc. – saying I was exaggerating things.
I wonder what the same folks think now given what we know about these very same corporations; given a number of them are actively enabling a genocide.
Am I still an alarmist?
(I understand if some of you are too busy working at one or debating the minutiae of CSS syntax to reply.)

Newly released data from Ontario's rental housing tribunal analyzed by CBC News shows that fewer than two dozen corporate landlords filed most of the applications to raise rents above provincial guidelines for most of 2022 — which one Toronto housing lawyer says is a sign of the increasing concentration in the province's rental market.
