@Migueldeicaza @schwa BTW defaults write com.apple.dt.XCBuild BuildDescriptionInMemoryCacheSize 0 might be a better workaround than the script :)

Played through Astro’s playroom again now that we’re finally getting a full game. What a delight.

Trump's conviction does not bring me joy because 1) he won't probably spend a second in jail (he will likely get a probation sentence) and 2) he might get even more votes now that he has been convicted by "the system". His campaign is all about "the system being rigged", nothing better could have happened to him. Hope I'm wrong.

It's 10:40 and I am now ready to open Xcode and do work, after a solid morning of messaging people about the corporately mandated security software on their laptops.

Again, I'm not sure it’s the best use of a principal engineer, but at least I get to have a chat to individuals on the team 🍻

NeoNacho,

@tonyarnold 10:40 is about when I get to work and open Xcode 🥲

NeoNacho,

@jsq @tonyarnold not that there’s a good time to be in Cupertino but 9:41 is too early for sure

Here’s an open source phenomenon I cannot stand.

You propose a change, and maintainers agree it makes sense. But! This now makes them realize some other, related-but-independent stuff also could be better. So now they want you to expand the PR to fix that other stuff too before they accept.

PR author gives up. Everyone loses.

NeoNacho,

@mattiem my personal pet peeve version of this is testing :)

Entire feature is untested and also slightly broken, open a PR to fix the brokenness, get asked to invent the entire test infrastructure for the feature.

NeoNacho,

@jsq @mattiem I would simply not open PRs

Apple's weird hiring practices and insistence on hiring non-remote for their positions is their loss.

They're missing out on some top-shelf developers/comedians.

Have been playing Fallout 4 the last couple of weeks and the Far Harbor DLC’s quest line is actually really good, almost reaches New Vegas level of quality in the design of alternative outcomes.

The biggest issue is that they went back on NV advancements on making Charisma less overpowered.

I had it maxed out so I could basically convince anyone of doing anything, including getting a cult leader to blow up his entire cult 🥲

NeoNacho,

Also maybe we can just go back to this level of visuals and get a new Fallout game every 5 years or so instead of every 20.

This is completely fine.

Over on twitter there has been a bit of a back and forth on C# and Rust simple json server performance.

I know C# has gotten a ton of performance tuning on the stack, and was wondering if Swift was up to the task.

I have never done Swift on the Server before, but the results are impressive:

Swift: 64k req/sec
.NET: 61k req/sec

Is it possible to set xcodebuild settings inside a Package.swift somehow?

This builds my package successfully:

xcodebuild build -scheme MyScheme SWIFT_STRICT_CONCURRENCY=complete

But if I open Package.swift in Xcode, it fails to build because “complete" is not the default.

(This is because MainActor.assumeIsolated was introduced in iOS 17, but backported to iOS 13)

I feel like people pointing out bad results from any “AI” system are missing the point.

You have to think of them as similar to spam, if you can recognize that it is garbage, you’re just not the target demographic.

The hope is that the remaining audience is still large enough to run a profitable scam, simple as that.

NeoNacho,

That said, the weirdest part of Google’s “AI” feature is that they already had a relatively decent system for generating summaries that was based on picking out the right part of the website to highlight.
