I expect we will see #TaylorSwift's plane from Japan being tracked every ten minutes during the pre-game shows, kind of like how NORAD tracks Santa on Christmas.

This was a real newspaper headline in my childhood home town.

Proving once again that proper punctuation is very, VERY important.

AnneTheWriter1, to space

in 1986...

I was at college, walking up the stairs to my dormroom when I heard about it. I spent the rest of the day glued to my little TV in our room.

As I watched the video that was being replayed over and over, one moment struck me: The twin trails of smoke from the booster rockets looked like the wide-spread arms of a giant in the sky.

It was immediately obvious that there would be no survivors. I cried, and prayed that they never had a chance to know what happened, and feeling awful for all the school kids watching the teacher take off, on TVs at schools around the world.

The cause was later determined to be a simple, small, faulty O-ring. It would be months later before any human remains were recovered, found at the bottom of the ocean.

The would never be the same again.

Suddenly CNN is covering Israeli war crimes.

I guess the ICJ verdict wasn't perfect, but it may have opened up a window for the world to have chance to watch the truly and ugly face of Israeli occupation and military operations.

PS. The video came out last week. It's not something new, they chose to sit on it for a week waiting for ICJ verdict to come out.

AnneTheWriter1,

@faab64 @palestine
Actually, this is not the first time CNN has called out Isreal's war crimes. I have seen them do so at least a few times before. The one that sticks with me most is the one where Isreal desecrated Muslim gravesites, scattering bones on the premise that they were looking for terrorists,🙄 then driving vehicles through the devastated cemeteries.

This is a follow-up report to the preceeding link from . This one came out today (Monday, 29 Jan 2024). The reporters are guided through a tunnel that the IDF claims is under a cemetery that they (Isreal) desecrated and destroyed, but the General does not permit the reporters to confirm the location of the tunnel to the cemetery, while on-site.

(Spoiler: At the end of the video, CNN later geolocated the tunnel entrances and the tunnel between them to an area just outside the ruins of the cemetery.)

Near me in #Chicago, there's a long tradition of "calling #dibs" on any parking spot where a nearby resident went through the trouble of shoveling the deep #snow away. Usually, people use a lawn chair or milk carton cube.

But some people like to do it with more flair than others.

It seems appropriate that yesterday, my family & I were driving home from Kentucky, and came through . As we had done on previous such trips to visit family, we drove around the town, hoping to spot one of their famous , but were (once again) unsuccessful.🐿🌰☹️

More than once, I thought I spotted one. But my theory is that it's hard to distinguish any of them in the snow. So we could only pose next to the town's squirrel statue.

It's below zero here in Northern Illinois today. When it's this cold or raining out, our dog always gets a treat for doing her business outside, even though she never messes in the house. It just seems like she deserves a little extra treat for weather like this.

AnneTheWriter1, to foxes

I was surprised to get a mid-afternoon visit today from our one of our neighborhood #foxes (they're usually more nocturnal). The #RedFox stopped where we often feed the birds. I had thrown out some old bread for the birds to eat, but my fox friend found it first.

Once he realized we were discretely watching him, he reluctantly walked off without finishing his meal.🙁

The wide variety of animal prints🐾 in the snow are presumably from the nearby skunks, racoons, squirrels, rabbits, and opossums-- only a few of the indentations are from my small dog (who is about the same size as the fox), since she rarely walks in that area.

[The glass on the patio door is a bit dirty, so there are some spots in the original image.]

Photo taken in #AuroraIllinois USA (far suburban Chicago), in the section of the state referred to as "the #FoxRiver."

A snippet of video/motion-capture photo. A Northern Illinois Red Fox, standing in the snow just outside my back patio door, looking at the humans inside and eating bread pieces. There is a wide variety of animal prints in the snow, although many of the indentations are from my small dog (who is about the same size as the fox). Others are probably from skunks, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, and opossums. The glass on the patio door is a bit dirty, so there are some spots in the image.

Where I live in the Midwestern USA, there's a large outside today. It's a deep but wet snow, making it perfect for packing into snowballs and sculptures. I think I found some inspiration here…

Local #BenchArt
#GenevieveTowsley (1907-1995) was a local journalist, author, and historian. She frequently wrote articles featuring local immigrant families, and her stories resulted in a nearby pool becoming racially integrated. Her work to save a historic building founded the #NapervilleHeritageSociety.

The bench is very inviting. Pedestrians often stop to rest or take a selfie with Genevieve. She sits outside of a #BarnesAndNoble bookstore, at the corner of Washington St and Chicago Ave in #Naperville #Illinois.

Genevieve's statue has been here many years, but Naperville is known for its wide variety of #SidewalkSculpture displays, which are changed out frequently. The artist is Pamela Carpenter of nearby Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

Image of a black plaque with gold letters, on a red brick wall. The plaque reads: Genevieve Towsley 1907-1995 Naperville journalist, author, and historian Come sit with Genevieve if you may She'll lend her ear to what you say She "pounded the pavement" and upon her search This journalist wrote of community, county, and church Her stories meandered through our everyday life Writing of our neighbors' joys and strife Like the fruited vine upon arbor sound Her columns became our history in written bound Come sit with Genevieve if you may She's a 20th century icon in every way.
