Yup, same here. We’re in between the generational wedding cycles. And the next batch are only in middle school and elementary school. (And nobody’s in any of the child bride eligible states, thank the gods. Also there’s only 3 of them—we’re not a prolific family.

Help, Mastodon! What's your fav camera &why? (I do wildlife, mushroom detail occasional sports photos) I have a Panasonic DMC FZ28, which I ❤ but want a bit of an upgrade. Trying to decide whether to try a different company or no.

I’m on my second Sony mirrorless full-frame and am quite happy with it. I had a couple Canon DSLRs previously, but they were all not the full- frame models. I’ve got an a7R IVA. I use it exclusively for wildlife and scenic stuff. Strictly amateur but about 30 years doing it. Good in-camera stabilizing, a bazillion pixels, excellent color & ISO handling. The R model is optimized for nature shots, the others are good for video.

You can look at some pics I post here with #RockyMountainNationalPark or #SilentSunday. One thing they will show you is how the bazillions of pixels lets you crop the crap out of your shots and still end up with passable stuff. IMHO, anyway.

I only ever tweeted about 2 dozen times in 5 years, so I’ll take your word for it. I never got any responses. Maybe 5 Likes tops.
But I have run a small forum for about 30 years and the only real difference I can tell is the sheer volume of traffic today compared to that. All the same behaviors though.

It’s a pretty popular 14er (a collection of something like 47 or so mountains in Colorado with elevations of 14K feet or more) and is about an hour from Denver so lots of opportunities for falls. Park Service recommends starting out by 4AM from the trail head, in order to be off the mountain before the frequent afternoon weather brings rain or snow. Most falls and fatalities occur on the descent, likely due to altitude-related lightheadedness.

I got a phone call years ago (before texting was a thing) from my dad, 8 months after mom died.

Dad: Guess what I just did.
Me: Umm, no idea.
Dad: I got engaged.
Me: Umm, to who?
Dad: A woman I met on a dating site.🤯

Dad was 80-something, we feared it was some 40 year old in leopard-print capri pants. Great. Turned out she was a white-haired widow who we became grateful to for taking him on so we didn’t have to. Long story short, he was an asshole as long as I knew him.

Took the Bear/Man survey w the memory that I once saw sketchy men in the woods up ahead when I was hiking with a friend close to dusk. (huge mistake) It was terrifying. We immediately turned around, & ran back to the beginning of the trail, even though it was a further distance, and it soon turned dark. Luckily, the boy was a former boy scout, and brought a flashlight. My instant instinct was to run & take our chances w the dark, not the men. (PSA it gets dark in the woods sooner than you think)

FWIW, it didn’t used to be this way. I used to enjoy backcountry camping with another guy friend, in the Rockies and around Sarinac Lake in the Adirondacks a couple times, in the 90s & early oughts. Too many whackos with guns out there now.
