Oh my God! Oh fck! I wake up to this big news and all I can say is fck! I went to bed having read something about Philip K Dick Awards (I can't even remember what I read about it!) and I wake up to learn that my book, Where Rivers Go To Die, has been nominated for this and its a big deal to me and all I can day is f*ck! What a way to start the year!
One problem with leaving the birdsite is that I had built up a reasonable list of illustrators to follow there, and I really haven't here. But I bet they're around. If you're a #fantasy or #sciencefiction or #comedy#illustrator, especially if you're interested in commissions from an author, give this post a like so I can check out your work. Or recommend me someone in the comments. Or boost this so more people see it. Or just tell me what good hashtags I should be following. #illustration#sff
Welcome! I'm Sonia, writer of spec fic inspired by Palestinian folklore. You can find my stories at ArabLit Quarterly, Beladi, FANTASY magazine, FIYAH, Lackington's, and other places.
My work has been nominated for: Pushcart, Lammy, Palestine Book Award, and Best New Weird Awards.
🤖 I have a lot of love for technology, machines, science fiction, and all things robotics. I plan to keep dorky tech talk sequestered to @Sinegrave
🎮 Here, I plan on talking about more dorky fictional things, like video games and movies and books and TTRPGs. Undoubtably, there's going to be some overlap across my Fedi presences.
📖 Still, this is where I plan to focus more on #writing, #essays, #articles, and the like as it pertains to both #sff and #journalism, the latter of which I also study and hold a degree in. If anyone is looking for a writer, let me know!
Okay so NOW this FREE cyberpunk collection (which is so old you can see on the cover that it was only $3.50 for a paperback copy), is available as an #ebook download (FREE, I said!) as well as just opening it to read on your device. If you want it in that format, you can go there and try out the two ebook download systems it's offered on, let me know if it's not working.
I'm in this huge CYBERPUNK book, along with William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Pat Cadigan, Cory Doctorow @pluralistic and lots more.
The Big Book of Cyberpunk arrives September 26. Editor Jared Shurin tells File 770, “As with any attempt at a definitive collection, I suspect (and hope) it will provoke conversation!”
At over a thousand pages it is the largest anthology of the genre, with authors from over two dozen countries. #bookstodon#sff#scifi#books
This year is a tough one for @UncannyMagazine for many reasons, not least of which is how completely Amazon screwed over small magazines.
As a staff member, I'd consider it a personal favour if you'd take a look and consider backing Year 10. The editors/publishers (my friends!) will get paid if we do well enough--they're doing palliative care for their daughter (also my friend!) rn so, it would mean a LOT.
Author copies arrived of this bulky anthology of African ghost stories. Now I can say that my story was published in the same book as the legend, Amos Tutuola!
In this issue: stories by Seán Padraic Birnie, E.G. Condé, Rachael Cupp, Roby Davies, Matt Hollingsworth, Prashanth Srivatsa, and R. Wren; columns by Alexander Glass, Nick Lowe, Val Nolan, and Aliya Whiteley; and book reviews by Gautam Bhatia, Zachary Gillan, Kelly Jennings, Paul Kincaid, Giselle Leeb, and Val Nolan. The cover art, SIBILANCE, is by Carly A-F.
AN INTERVIEW WITH CHARLES STROSS, Hugo and Locus and Prometheus Award winning author and science-fiction visionary. We grill him about the future of our world! His perspective is very distinctive indeed. Don't miss out.
The barbarian peered at the kitten, barely filling her hand. It arched its tiny back, tail bristled. A growl emerged, warming up to what would surely be a mighty hiss of fury.
The barbarian nodded, approvingly, "A fine, fierce beast. It will be a most suitable comrade."
The ranger began to protest but then the kitten flung itself at his face.
"My little warrior shall be known as Face-Biter," the barbarian declared proudly.
[Another reason books are going to increasingly suck--publishers are getting rid of most editors and copyeditors...and by the way I just saw "how to use chatgpt to copyedit your book" Oh...god...]
Several top editors at Penguin Random House accept buyout offers, layoffs also underway
Some of publishing’s most celebrated and enduring editors are leaving their posts at Penguin Random House after accepting buyout packages
#introduction Hi, I’m Cait (like Kat), and I moved over to the Wandering Shop server. I’m a #queer, #disabled, and #autistic award-nominated #sff author and award-winning disability fiction editor. That makes me sound really fancy, but I’m just a fun, feisty, and friendly human who really likes cake.
Bookshop.org is the alternative to Amazon that supports independent bookstores, so when it offers something of mine, I provide their link to the book. The science-fiction / technothriller crossover, SUBORBITAL 7 is a paper book here (and at Amazon etc)--and is also an #ebook.
