The recent excitement surrounding Thread's arrival on the Fediverse is concerning. To understand why this is not a good idea, consider their economic interest in harvesting data, their poor moderation, and their manipulations. Nothing good can come from their federation. Don't roll out the red carpet for them.
Someone posted a question which included the #krita hashtag about when Krita or GIMP and so would support "AI". I won't reply or mention them because they were anonymous people without a bio, but the answer is:
if there are libraries with a GPLv3+ compatible license
if there are models trained only on publicly available images, instead of pirated copyrighted images (Krita is GPLv3, so yeah, we support copyright and copyleft).
Oh hai! Here's what's up with FOSS lately: new releases of Qucs-S, Bespoke Synth by @awwbees (missed that one in July!), and VCV Rack, progress with autoexpanding layers in @GIMP and with CMYK PDF exporting in @inkscape, various exciting changes in @ardour, UI improvements in @FreeCAD.
"Hey, bud. Want to see what this cool thing called Linux can do?"
Here's a drawing of Xenia, the Linux fox we all know and love! Originally a proposed alternative to Tux before Linux had a mascot in the 1990s, she is now an unofficial symbol of unity amongst the Linux and wider libre-software community. It's cool to see not only a mascot to a cool, ethical project, but one that represents the people and community behind it. Plus, she represents the often underappreciated trans community in the tech space, which has helped contribute to the technological progress we see today.
Visit us and chat with contributors, try out #Plasma6, play with the #SteamDeck, watch a demo of KDE software on embedded, paint pictures with #Krita, and much more. See you there!
So in Polish wishes for #Easter we often say "happy #egg" (pol. wesołego jajka) or "tasty egg" (pol. smacznego jajka). So what about #dragon egg (smocznego jajka)? :blobcat_amused:
