> Adobe Tells Users They Can Get Sued for Using Old Versions of Photoshop
We need #FLOSS tools to get to the point where they can replace Adobe tools. Open alternatives are great, but they are sadly not there yet to replace Adobe tools for professionals.
And won't be unless projects like @inkscape get enough funding to develop to a point of being viable alternatives.
@rysiek@inkscape I feel like one of the big challenges with #FLOSS tools for things like image editing is that initially, FLOSS flourished where the users were more inclined to manipulate the tools themselves, and to do things like submit patches, take on more development roles, or even just read the code to try to understand it. It was a hit then for things like the Apache web server, and other GNU system tools - the users were closer to the code, so to speak, and would dabble in it to some extent.
On the other hand, people using things like image editors are more thinking of creating whatever it is they're trying to create, as opposed to maintaining an infrastructure. Someone just editing a photo isn't necessarily thinking about the inner workings of their OS (to the extent someone hacking on a web server might be). So, there's more of a gap between the people who would be using that and the people who would be writing those tools.
I like the way #Blender had open movie projects, where the developers would work alongside artists to produce an actual creative work. I think more of that kind of thing would benefit the likes of #Krita and the #GIMP, and other projects.
I’m hearing murmurs of YouTube blocking browsers that support ad blockers.

Yesterday we published our 2022 Financial Report. When people saw Thunderbird raised $6.4M in 2022 from donations, one question was asked frequently: "Do you have mega-donors?"
Nope. We just have awesome people 💙
Some stats we didn't publish in the report:
-We had 76 donations that were $500 or above, which is less than 1% of total donations.
Hello! I'm John. I'm usually found wearing big round glasses and shorts, and doing the ✌🏻 sign.
I've been learning how to draw since late 2021 as a form of therapy. Sometimes, I draw my followers/community. I will post some of it on the next toot.
expect some memes, terrible attempt at being funny, self-deprecating jokes as a way to cope.
oh god, I don't know what else to say. this feels like the first day of class all of a sudden..uh selfies?
As I mentioned, I draw my community sometimes, the first image is one example. I think I have done a lot of art for community so I just picked the most recent one.
The rest are previous art I posted on my old instance.
I am hoping to post some more while I try to improve.
I use the free software #Krita and a small #Huion tablet. I draw on my PC.
I think that's a most of myself because I don't know how to describe myself any further lol.
For Venezuelans who have lost access to #adobe Photoshop -- try #gimp or #krita -- fre software that covers most of the functionality of Photoshop - no need to license it. For SVG's try #inkscape (of course).
It's great that Linux now has plenty of creative #FOSS apps that let us avoid the Scourge of Adobe.
The problem comes in that the absolute disaster of #Wayland adoption, which we're all supposed to love and migrate to, is thoroughly incompatible with so many creative packages like #Krita or #TrenchBroom.
And it's not like Wayland is brand new. I don't know how we can go this long with an "upgrade" and still have so many important apps broken, apps that are vital to some people's careers.
Been developing #Midi. He's mostly playable! Just got a couple more moves to add, and then he'll be complete, and all that'll be left for Kiki will be to make her #sprites. Then the squirrels will join #Tux and #Konqi in their quest!
Hector Martin can eat shit. I literally cannot do my job, THE JOB THAT I AM PAID TO DO, if I use #Wayland.
#Krita isn't some inconsequential app. I have YEARS of Krita-specific files, brushes, and workflow, and it was ONLY LAST WEEK that I could finally use a hw accelerated canvas, and it's still buggy as shit.
Welcome to day 3 of the #CreativeFreedomSummit 🖌️ 250 people have joined the Matrix room we're hosting the conference from with a high of 70+ concurrent viewers. It's been fun; don't miss out on the last day!
First #drawing for #Mermay this year - I know I am late to the party :blobcatjoy: At least May didn't end yet...
Used photo of my sister sitting at the table as body pose reference :blobCat_blush:
