Does anyone know a #FLOSS and perhaps self-hostable music scrobbler? Something similar to last.fm ?
I do not want to post every music I listen to here on my mastodon account, but it would nice to be able to share what I'm listening to with friends and family.
Depending on how big the gap is, I'm willing to contribute money as part of a crowdfunding effort to build up one of the #FLOSS alternatives to replace #Sonos with, possibly including someone building a hardware business to sell some neat audio relay boxes (with or without an AMP, I guess).
I really don't get #Sonos. Instead of alienating their (nerdier) customers, imagine they had an official local extension API:
A lot of #FLOSS developers would recommend them to everyone (b/c most of us can't be bothered to deal with sleek hardware or patented shite like Dolby/HDMI), and they could just leave the local library handling (which they obvs hate) to someone else.
That'd be a marketing boost and give them a platform lock-in.
Instead, they're doing whatever it is they're aiming for?

For all people here that use #Squeezebox and Lyrion Music Server. There is a community firmware update for Squeezebox Radio, Touch and Controller. I wrote a blogpost why and how to update to the latest version: 8.5.0.

Hey lovely Keila users! I’m currently re-doing the website and would like to add some more quotes from Keila users. If you’d consider giving a testimonial, send me a pm 💚
(Thanks to André at @brinjel for adding the first new testimonial)
Say you wanted to spin up an internationalist, remote-first, tech-worker collective, but then you think about bureaucracy and The Fear stops you in your tracks.
Is there a procedural, flow-chart like resource out there?
No matter if you host your own copy of GitLab Software or use GitLab's servers directly, you should enable 2-step Verification - NOW (right now, do not wait). There is a current exploit that allows someone to hijack GitLab Accounts, who are not using 2-step verification.
The state of Schleswig-Holstein in #Germany has renewed their de-Microsoft efforts by announcing that they will be switching the state administration's approximately 30,000 employee's PCs to #FLOSS solutions and moving towards “digitally sovereign IT workplaces”.
This was agreed upon by the state's cabinet, who have decided to replace Microsoft Office with #LibreOffice as the first of six key pillars that are part of their digitally sovereign IT workplace plan.

#OpenSource#FLOSS: "People asked what Red Hat could do to get me interested in Enterprise Linux again. It's simple: stop treating people who don't bring revenue to the table like garbage. Freeloaders are part of open source—whether they're running homelab or a competing business.
Companies who want to befriend open source devs need to show they care about more than just money. Unfortunately, the trend right now is to rugpull to juice the quarterlies, because money line always goes up!
But you know what? I'd just prefer honesty. If revenue is so dependent on selling software, just... make the software proprietary. Don't be so coy!
But to anyone who's not a multi-billion dollar corporation, don't be a victim of the next rugpull. The warning signs are clear: Don't sign a CLA. Stay away from projects that require them.
Stick to open source licenses that respect your freedom, not licenses written to juice revenue and prep a company for a billion-dollar-buyout.
Maybe it's time for a new open source rebellion. Maybe this time, money won't change company culture as new projects arise from the ash heap. Maybe not, but at least we can try."
