Congrats Jacob Gaboury! '23 CBI Human-Computer Interaction History Prize recip. for his brilliant book Image Objects: An Archeology of Computer Graphics (MIT Press 2021). Thx for support from Ben Shneiderman and Catherine Plaisant.
Thanks to my fellow committee members Liz Petrick, @teaselmuir Con Diaz, Dag Spicer & Fabio Paterno.
The preview image on this #Reuters graphics piece had me scratching my head ... was it a graphical glitch caused by Twitter's poor image resizing algorithms (which have messed up plenty of my textmode screenshots in the past)? ... Or was it intentional?
Either way, it's kind of cool ... it's like a photo slowly becoming an Atari 400/800/XL/XE screen.
Had to figure out how to parse the Atari ST's system fonts, but tonight I finally succeeded in adding text support to my web-based IGS art editor thingy.

I almost NEVER post birdsite tweets here but, you guys, if you're #graphics / #graphicsprogramming#4k nerds, you've just gotta read this awesome discussion around why the stars in The Martian don't look right in the 4K release!
Anyone know of work on visualizing simplicial complexes in 3D? Laying out edges, triangles, and tetrahedra, etc. I'm thinking something along the lines of the work on graph layout and visualizing #networks, but doing it in 3D, and for simplicial complexes and hypergraphs/#HigherOrderNetworks.
Check out this video where I logon to my BBS using an Atari Mega STe, complete with #pixelart image of Kirk, Spock and the Guardian of Forever in IGS format. 🎨
This is the final static version of my new Guardian of Forever #BBS login screen, served using the #Atari ST's "IGS" text graphics language. 🖥️
I am stoked about where this ended up!
On my BBS, the screen is animated with some palette cycling effects, and some lettering superimposed. I am still exploring whether to add IGS music/sound effects.
