Similarly, who can explain why journalism theory does not include that it it all has to appeal to the customer, who are the advertisers: https://beige.party/@bdiss/112450971333321598

We live in a benighted culture based on a pile of bogus theories.

Topping them all BTW is "quantum physics".

(I refer to the cult metatheory of it, not the formulas, which happen to be correct, because they were discovered empirically. If you ask me, "Then how do you explain...?" then you are a victim of the cult.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

But back to journalism. If journalism "critics" from within the field were more honest, they would include the need of journals to please their customers as the foremost consideration, and then all would make since and there would be nothing to complain about.

They could simply make the recommendation that you not purchase the New York Times unless what you expect is appeal to Bergdorf-Goodman and that MSNBC has much lower standards than that.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

Probably fewer newspapers would be failing if journalists had been taught proper theory, too. If they knew what their primary role in society was was to appeal to customers, and that conveying news was a means.

If what they wished to do was to convey news, rather than appeal to customers, they'd invent or go into a different, but related field. They might become Cassandras, for instance. I am a Cassandra, perhaps.

@paninid Bibi knows all about rewarding terrorists. He offered them a reward of removing Jews from France for attacking French Jews, too.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@paninid Way back when, his government's response to the big attacks in Paris was not condolences and aid, but to encourage French Jews to move to Israel. French Jewish leaders were livid and "apologies" were issued.

But let's draw conclusions: Bibi LIKES attacks on the Diaspora. They aid him politically, by increasing his support base with fresh immigrants.

@billykaren Where is the advertising value in covering that story?

Seriously, no one who writes about cable news coverage from any other angle is ACTUALLY writing about the subject. They are writing about some fantasy world. The issue is what is the advertising value of the story.

I decided to finish my small black ash cutting board with tung oil. It has gotten two doses so far. I think it's actually enough, but will give more doses.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

It's that black ash has an open grain, and so I wanted a fairly solid and smooth finish.

@spacemagick @highercoffee He prefers Earl Grey, but it bothers me that we never learn exactly what SORT of Earl Grey he likes.

It basically means any (usually black) tea flavored with or as if with bergamot oil.

The original style was a Chinese black tea with a light flavoring, but most Earl Greys today are not made the same.

I want details!

All of them are antisemites according to Senators Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham,

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@joshourisman @SouthernLibtard

Indeed.

It is the Netanyahu family who have been caught peddling anti-Jewish caricatures, in fact. And Netanyahu himself doesn't discourage violence against the Diaspora (to put it circumlocutively). Calling for the ouster of Netanyahu is calling for the expulsion of antisemitism!

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@joshourisman @SouthernLibtard

All that may be true as well. It certainly is true that Netanyahu is a thief. The man is, apart from any war crimes, A HUGE THIEF. A person who steals.

And it certainly is true that the taking of hostages is an unspeakably degenerate act. Those are two things I like to emphasize.

(Netanyahu's antipathy towards the Diaspora is merely the one matter that's actually my business and not someone else's. People often butt in where they don't belong.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@joshourisman When justice actually has been satisfied, then I will take it more seriously. In a corrupt parliamentary system, however, I expect any crime to be easily undoable by cronies.

chemoelectric,

@joshourisman I have loathed Netanyahu since he was an underling appearing on U.S. TV a lot in the 1980s, saying things I found abhorrent.

chemoelectric, (edited )
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@GottaLaff It is a different case than the Republican primaries, though, where the ONLY thing Trump had to do was KEEP THE OTHERS OUT OF THE NEWS.

The media, of course, were entirely cooperative, but let us keep in mind their job is to advertise things that are for sale, and to do stuff like that. Covering politicians is the means to that end.

(Academic journalism critics will not say this. They have a sort of scam going that advances their careers but changes nothing.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@GottaLaff Similarly, nearly the only thing Biden ever has to do with RFK is treat him as if he does not exist. And having his family treat him that way doesn't hurt, either.

I can see my feed is going to be filled with both the suggestion that Israelis can be forgiven for ELECTING Netanyahu, because they PROTESTED it, ana also with the implication that Ashkenazi Jews are NOT ethnic Israelites.

Presumably sometime today I will see Jesus referred to as "a Jewish Palestinian", rather than as "a Jew", which is how HISTORIANS mean it. The latter "Jewishness" means a relative of Ashkenazi and other bloodline Jews, not a random person with a particular religion.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

Here's something about Judaism and forgiveness: there is no call for unconditional forgiveness, as some might be familiar with from their very non-Judaic traditions. One might offer it, but one is more likely to offer it after actual steps have been taken to right the wrong.

Oust Bibi, finally put him in prison for heck's sake (the man is a thief), and then we might talk forgiveness.

But, even then, you are lucky if you get it.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

(Holding grudges—particularly against fellow Jews, Jack Klompus-style—is looked down upon, however. So one might simply be left unforgiven, but not actively persecuted.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@deirdresm My core problem is that Israeli Jews and the Jewish Diaspora have an asymmetrical relationship: you scratch my back, you scratch mine.

I am 3/4 Ashkenazi Jewish, and on both the maternal and paternal lines, and went to Hebrew School at a very poorly attended Conservative synagogue in New Jersey. I am atheist. My relationship to Judaism is it is my people's "tribal" religion and a way of collecting our wisdoms, literature, stupidities, etc. Jewry is the term that matters here, though.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@deirdresm Bibi, after all, hardly follows Judaism. It is no secret he does not follow Judaism. But he cannot possibly avoid being a Jew, however much he might actually desire it. He is a carbuncle on the ass of Jewry.

He is the sort who try to convince the Gentiles (and keep in mind I am 1/4 Gentile, so no hating on the Goyim shall be tolerated) that he is like them and NOT like all the Shylocks out there (such as the caricatures Yair Netanyahu was caught peddling).

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@deirdresm I can tell you from my own family background, a bunch of working Jews are no better than a bunch of working anybodies. Bigots and idiots like the rest. "Seinfeld" is reality. It is prejudice that Jews might somehow be superhuman and surpass that.

But this should be obvious. My Grandma was from East New York, where the next generation of kids after her were recruited to be part of Murder Inc. Jews were gangsters like everyone, because JEWS ARE PEOPLE.

This last is what few accept.
