@arstechnica note that there is a 100% successful, excellent Chinese language/English subtitled adaptation of 3 Body Problem made by Tencent that is available for free on YT. The Netflix show might be ok, or it might be a disaster, but if you like the book this is a very nice watch
Could the planetary system in "3 Body Problem" — a system where the stars are so close in their orbits that their motion becomes random — exist? Peter Watson, emeritus professor of physics at Carleton University, writes for @TheConversationUS about chaotic systems and how stochastic problems are like drunk people trying to get around. "You cannot predict where the next step will take him, but you can say that he will eventually reach the door." Article contains spoilers for Netflix's "3 Body Problem."
There is no amount of caps lock or combination of words that express my absolute excitement. I'm literally shaking and teared up. It looks so promising.
I can't help thinking the Netflix three body will suck. The people don't look Chinese. The girl is dressed like a video game character. The cultural revolution stuff looks over the top.
I don't know if I can even watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lj99Uz1d50
I hope Netflix does not screw this up, as the Three Body Problem might be the best SciFi show of 2024.
More from The Verge:
We're inching ever closer to https://www.theverge.com/23761250/netflix-3-body-problem-trailer-release-date's premiere on Netflix, and today, that means another glimpse at the sci-fi adaptation. Whereas the previous trailer focused on the incredibly immersive virtual reality game at the core of the story, the latest clip focuses on something different: the mystery. Basically, a whole bunch of scientists have gone missing, and Benedict Wong's character is trying to figure out what it all means. (The Verge)
I am super excited for this show to premiere, but last I checked we have to wait until March 21 before the series is revealed to the world (& Netflix will allow us to binge watch the entire season! 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾‼️).
Would I recommend Three-Body just to anyone? Probably not. However, if you're patient enough to sit through a few slow patches, you will be highly rewarded.
And watch this before the #Netflix one.
The beginning of the Three body problem is tough to watch. I knew they’d have to film it, but wasn’t prepared for how much it upset me. My family were academics in China during this time. One of the big reasons why they fled the country and I now live in Australia 😭 #threeBodyProblem#China#SciFi
It took us a while to finish up '3 Body Problem' on Netflix, and I had to chew on it for a bit before writing out some thoughts. https://somegadgetguy.com/b/43i
The show's ambition is its greatest strength, but also its potential failing...
The reaction on Chinese social media to Netflix's adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem" has been mixed, but Vox's Aja Romano argues that depictions of nationalistic outrage are probably exaggerations. She unpacks the response to this adaptation, the book trilogy, and Tencent's "Three Body," and says this time around, the problem is Netflix, not Chinese viewers.
Was bleibt ist dumbe Weltverklärung. #Netflix auf verzweifelt eben.
Chinese science fiction history shapes Netflix's '3 Body Problem' influence - FRIDAY ANALYSIS
I don’t often get to indulge my appreciation of Sinology, i.e., the study of Chinese history and culture, but Netflix’s new science fiction series “3 Body Problem” has piqued the curiosity of many people unaware of the country’s expansive Sci-Fi connections.
Aliens have advanced technology on Earth, instant communication over light years, can influence humans - but give mankind a 400 year warning that they will arrive and squash the bugs.
And half the series is about sending 18g of seeds to another star, and the capsule doesn't even get the trajectory right.
They had 30 episodes on the original (Chinese) series of three body (I’m at 21) and only 8 on the Netflix one? How are they ever gonna explain so much complexity??
This one is so well made, the Netflix version better pull some miracle if it wants to impress me. #ThreeBodyProblem
Just how long will we have to wait to meet the San-Ti? '3 Body Problem' is jumping to the future in Season 2 and maybe Season 3. But how long will that take in real life?
I've been staying up too late reading the second book in the 3 Body series.
Although the concepts in the first book are epic, the second book feels more action-packed and exciting. It's not all talking characters, but stuff is happening. It makes me want to keep reading to find out more.
I wish they’d make the sequels to the OG Three Body. Because it was brilliant! They stayed true to the book. I can’t comment on acting though, this was the first time I watched anything Chinese.
Anyway if you get the chance, go watch it. It’s on Prime video (in USA). Highly recommend #ThreeBodyProblem#books#tvshows
Who has watched the Three Body Problem on Netflix? I think I'm going to start it this weekend. I was extremely skeptical about it because of how badly the producers screwed up Game of Thrones, but heard it's good. Probably because they didn't have to write any original content 😂 I tried the Chinese version, and it's great, but I had a really hard time keeping up with the subtitles. #ThreeBodyProblem#SciFi
