If you can't wait for #Netflix’s new “Three-Body Problem” show, know that #Peacock will soon stream the 30-part Chinese adaptation “Three-Body”! (See Verge article below.)
The main thing that bothers me about "3 Body Problem" so far is the suggestion that if lots of science experiments started having weird results suddenly, physicists would be all "well, science is broken, might as well pack it in", as opposed to "whoa, this is amazing, we need more funding to study this phenomenon!".
Finally watching #ThreeBody. This is really great so far. I'm surprised. It feels like watching X-Files for the very first time back in the day. The writing is pretty good too, following the books fairly faithfully as far as I can tell. I was afraid they would leave out too much of the hard science/philosophy/politics of the original book. It looks really good too, cinematography-wise. CGI, less so. Very dramatic too, not bad acting. I hope it stays good.
I enjoyed Netflix’s #threebodyproblem adaptation a lot. The books (despite their brilliance) are a huge mess to say nothing of some of the problematic aspects. Jin Cheng/Cheng Xin and Thomas Wade are a lot more fleshed out and although many viewers criticised Auggie’s character, she’s still farrrr less annoying than Liu Cixin’s female characters, like Luo Ji’s real and imaginary love interests in the book as well as Ai AA (it’s clear that she’ll replace these characters in the next seasons).
It took us a while to finish up '3 Body Problem' on Netflix, and I had to chew on it for a bit before writing out some thoughts. https://somegadgetguy.com/b/43i
The show's ambition is its greatest strength, but also its potential failing...
Reading #ThreeBodyProblem while doomsayers argue we are about to observe the AI takeover😳
I am expecting big tech servers will be attacked by the fearing faction, while the other is hoping humans get exterminated by AI in order to save other species from us
"Dune," "Foundation" and "The Three Body Problem" were all supposedly unfilmable, and yet here we are. With that in mind, the A.V. Club's William Hughes writes about other sci-fi novels that deserve their shot at the big screen, including "The Caves Of Steel" by Isaac Asimov and Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Left Hand Of Darkness." Tell us in the comments which classic science-fiction stories you'd love to see on film or TV — and if there are any existing adaptations you think shouldn't have been made.
Aliens have advanced technology on Earth, instant communication over light years, can influence humans - but give mankind a 400 year warning that they will arrive and squash the bugs.
And half the series is about sending 18g of seeds to another star, and the capsule doesn't even get the trajectory right.
I've been reading Liu Cixin's "The Three Body Problem" so for #genuary7 and #genuary8 I imagined a loading animation for the game "Three body" that appears in the book. It does simulate physics like gravity, acceleration and such, but I make no claim to scientific accuracy.
I see there are multiple TV/streaming adaptations of Liu Cixin's #ThreeBodyProblem. I found the first novel fascinating and disturbing just like so many, and worthy of the awards and praise.
But I don't see people talk enough about the sexism and homophobia in the two sequels, where compassion is equated with femininity and "too much" compassion is ultimately the downfall of humanity. As the story progresses, embracing gender diversity and alternatives to traditional roles is depicted as a sign of decadence and decay in the human species. It's a grim, individualistic, and patriarchal view of the future in many ways. I hope the TV shows (especially the Netflix adaptation if it goes past the first book) do better.
I watched the excellent Chinese-produced Three Body Problem #cdrama this spring and now hear that Netflix will release the Game of Thrones/Brad Pitt produced version in January.
The original famous sci-fi novel series are complex philosophical meditations on time, history and physics.
Glad more of the world will be able to learn about its genius soon… and read the books! #threebodyproblem
I've been staying up too late reading the second book in the 3 Body series.
Although the concepts in the first book are epic, the second book feels more action-packed and exciting. It's not all talking characters, but stuff is happening. It makes me want to keep reading to find out more.
Just how long will we have to wait to meet the San-Ti? '3 Body Problem' is jumping to the future in Season 2 and maybe Season 3. But how long will that take in real life?
