The fact that this image even exists … and that you can see Earth on it … still blows my mind.

#AeroTime 📆 28th August 2022 #NASA's "SLS rocket :rocket: is #smaller than the #Saturn V. It is also much more #expensive. Adjusted for #inflation, the cost 💰 of one launch of the Saturn V in the 1960s was around $1.5 billion, which is a far cry from the $4 billion required for just one #SLS launch. #SpaceX #Starship would surpass the SLS in #size, #power and #cost, reportedly requiring a mere $2 to $10 million for a #launch" https://www.aerotime.aero/articles/32011-nasas-powerful-and-contraversial-sls-rocket-ready-to-launch

This picture of Saturn, taken by the Cassini spacecraft, is the most dazzling thing I’ve seen in a very long time.

My progress imaging Saturn:

From left to right:

  1. 2015 - 6" Maksutov, phone digiscope
  2. 2016 - Mak & DSLR
  3. 2020 - Mak & DSLR
  4. 2021 - Mak & ZWO ASI178MM
  5. 2022 - 8" Newtonian &178MM
  6. 2023 - 8" Newtonian &178MM

I was lucky to get some okay seeing last night - better than anything I had in 2022. Quite a bit of headroom left with my current setup I think.

I just realized today, I can get to see more toots on #space and #astronomy, by following hashtags like #Mercury #Venus #Mars #Jupiter #Saturn #Uranus #Neptune #Pluto #comet #asteroid . Thereby getting a much higher space to politics ratio here.

#TurnsOutIveNeverPlayed is my latest #RetroGaming wheeze. Far too many games sit on my shelves after acquisition and just rot there.

This game must have been in my collection for 20 years and I'm sure I've never played it. So I fixed that.

"Robotica: Cybernation Revolt" for the #SEGA #Saturn is a 1st-person Mech shooter with a memorable - if repetitive - soundtrack. It's not great, it's not terrible; less slick than "Hexen" and less intense than "Alien Trilogy". Will I play it again? Maybe.

A very detailed image of #Saturn was recently taken by the James Webb Space Telescope #JWST.

Meanwhile, the #Moon is also trying to pass as Saturn...

Image shows the Moon "dressing up" as Saturn. The full Moon is crossed by a linear cloud that is illuminated by the Moon's surface, making it look like the Saturn's rings.

Lately, I've been studying the early days of 3D polygons on home consoles for a new course.

We often think 3D on the #PS1 or #Saturn, but there was a bracket of time where special chips were added to both #SNES & #Genesis to help them render fast polygons.

Here's a super high-level review... 🧵

Preferably games that are not rereleased on Steam or similar.
