Anne Frank’s Father Otto, revisiting the attic where they hid from the Nazis. He was the only surviving family member (1960)
The #photographer Arnold Newman recalled taking of this photo: “The mood was depressing, and I immediately began photographing him. After a few moments, the Westertoren bells next door began to ring, and Frank turned to me and said: ‘Those were the bells that Anne wrote about.’ He suddenly broke down completely, weeping uncontrollably, and then so did I.
This indigo bunting (Passerina cyanea) is definitely a pretty bird. I haven't fed the birds today because I'm trying to see if the pigeons will give up and go away.
I really love this photo. Ben is the smaller "yorkish" dog, he's also the oldest and therefore holds the revered title of "Top Dog." Charlie is the border collie; he is forever by my side. I posted a photo I took with my phone yesterday. This photo is much better. We go for a walk in the woods almost every day, usually in the morning.

I was out for a walk with Ben and Charlie, when I noticed what looked like a large bird in a bare tree across a field. Initially, I didn't know what it was and hoped for a raptor of some sort. But it was an American crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos). This is kind of a minimalist photo; I like the way it looks.
A breathtaking morning at the Navarre Beach Pier. Measuring 1,545 feet long and towering 30 feet above the ocean, it's the longest pier in the Gulf of Mexico.
Kia ora e hoa mā! My feed is far too quiet for my tastes, and being on a solo instance my global feed is pretty quiet, too! I'd love to follow a few more folk, if you wouldn't mind giving this a boost or dropping me a line!
A breathtaking morning at the Navarre Beach Pier, which is famed for being Florida's longest fishing pier, measuring 1,545 feet long and towering 30 feet above the ocean.
The first time I ever saw a sunrise over the ocean. For my whole life, the beautiful skies over the ocean came at sunset as a west coaster. Now I know that sunrise can be every bit as beautiful. Atlantic coast of Florida.
South African photographer who documented apartheid
“I did not want to leave the country to find another life. I was going to stay and fight with my camera as my gun. I did not want to kill anyone, though. I wanted to kill apartheid.”
At the end of our excursion on Roatan, Honduras, there was this hummingbird feeder. I hung out there and tried to get some pictures. Most of the pictures I took focused on surrounding foliage and not the hummingbird. This is the best one of the bunch, it's not great but you can see some details. This is a green-breasted mango (Anthracothorax prevostii).
I have to say we were tired, and wanted back on the air-conditioned bus. Most of us were ... let's say past our prime and we trudged up and down hills, through caves, and even crossed a small river using a rope bridge.
The green-breasted mango or Prevost's mango (Anthracothorax prevostii) is a species in subfamily Polytminae of the hummingbird family Trochilidae. It is found from eastern Mexico south through most of Central America, in Colombia and Venezuela, and as a vagrant in the United States. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green-breasted_mango
When we came in from our walk yesterday, this eastern phoebe (Sayornis phoebe) was sitting on the backside of the fence in the backyard. This was the closest I've been to one of these and the only time I've seen one in the backyard.
"Flying insects make up the majority of the Eastern Phoebe’s diet. Common prey includes wasps, beetles, dragonflies, butterflies and moths, flies, midges, and cicadas; they also eat spiders, ticks, and millipedes, as well as occasional small fruits or seeds." - allaboutbirds.org
